Sweetwater ISD offers gifted education

Sweetwater Independent School District conducts a program for students with above average potential in academic and creative-productive thinking skills in grades K-12. This gifted education program is designed to challenge students to accelerate above and beyond the regular school curriculum.

Happy Lady Mustangs

The Sweetwater High School volleyball team was all smiles on Wednesday after beating Snyder at Mustang Gym to earn a playoff berth.
The Lady Mustangs will take on Fabens at Crane High School in bi-district at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Check ‘n Go opens new location in SW

Check ‘n Go, a leading provider of lending and financial services, has opened a new store in Sweetwater.
The grand opening was held on Oct. 28, at the new store, which is located at 811 Lamar Street. This storefront replaces a previous location on Northeast Georgia Avenue.
This Check ‘n Go will offer consumers many financial solutions, including:
• Retail loans
• Check cashing
• Western Union services
• Prepaid cards
"Check ‘n Go operates over 200 stores in Texas and we are excited to extend our operations in this new location," said store representatives.

Roscoe’s Lyndi Wilkinson, Karina Cisneros, Alejandra Solis, Braiden Moore, Whitney Williams, Alyssa Chavez, Samantha Ortega and Olivia Saddler and Highland’s Eli Shelton will compete at Region II-1A meet in Grand Prairie.

Three local teams face tough challenges today

The three Nolan County high school football teams who are in action today all face tall assignments as they fight for a playoff berth.
Sweetwater (1-2), which is currently tied for fourth place in District 4-3A, goes to Monahans (3-0), which is the district’s only remaining undefeated team.
Sweetwater’s only win was at Greenwood (0-3), where the Mustangs won 54-29 before losing to Big Spring 65-42 last Friday.

Sweetwater, Fabens will play in Crane

Sweetwater and Fabens will meet in a Class 3A bi-district volleyball playoff at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Crane High School, according to Sweetwater head volleyball coach Liz Miller.
Sweetwater qualified for the playoffs as the fourth-place team in District 4-3A after Wednesday’s season-ending four-game win over Snyder at Mustang Gym.

Highland beaten by top-ranked Ira

HIGHLAND — Highland trailed No. 1-ranked Ira by just eight, 16-8, in the final minute of the first quarter when Michael Hyde scored on a 10-yard run and Jacob Richburg added the PAT on Thursday. But that proved to be all the scoring the Hornets could produce as they lost 54-8 to Ira.
Highland (1-1) will make the playoffs by beating Hermleigh next week. The Cardinals (0-1) will be playing today against Rotan, which is also 0-1. Highland (5-3) saw a five-game winning streak halted while Ira improved to 9-0, 2-0.

JUNIOR HIGH BOYS
Team placed third
Kamren Shelton 5th (12:27); Cade Garrett 11th (13:02); Gage Braden 19th (13:54); Jordan Johns 22nd (14:23); Kanyon Carper 37th (18:03); Tucker Harris 39th (18:21).
JV GIRLS
Madison Braden 4th (16:04); Schyler Kimbrell 7th (16:54); Kaylee Martin 8th (16:57).

Today will be sunny with a high near 73. Winds will be from the west-southwest around 15 mph, becoming north-northwest winds in the afternoon.
Expect clear skies tonight, with a low around 45 and northern winds at 5 to 10 mph. After midnight, winds will shift to the southwest.
This weekend, we'll see highs in the mid to upper 60s, with lows in the mid 40s/low 50s. Winds will gradually increase throughout, with gusts up to 25 mph on Sunday night.
