The luncheon is hosted by Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital each year to honor survivors of breast cancer and remember loved ones. AdaBelle Clark, a 45-year survivor of breast cancer, was the guest speaker.

La Cocina Mexicana, located at 907 W. Alabama, has been a Sweetwater staple for 30 years now and they want to show their appreciation to the community for their patronage. Today is the restaurant's 30th anniversary and they will be serving free cake to customers on Friday to help celebrate the occasion. They will also have special prices on two of their best selling menu items. The #1 Mexican Plate will be available for $5.95 and the #2 Combination Plate will be available for $6.95 on Friday. (No substitutions on either plate.)
Southeast Elementary kindergarten and first grade students were visited by members of the Sweetwater Fire Department on Tuesday morning.
Fire Marshall Richard Spradlin and a number of his crew taught children about fire safety and how important it is to never play with fire. Shown are kindergarten students with Spradlin as he shows them how to operate one of the water hoses from the fire engine.

The Woman's Forum has always supported the Pioneer City-County Museum with various fundraisers. This year the women kick off a new annual project called "A Night at the Museum" which will coincide with the museum's annual "Pumpkins on the Porch" celebration on Saturday. The night gives children in the area the opportunity for a safe, fun night out and allows the adults to revisit the museum and see it in a new light. There will be a pumpkin carving contest, costume contest, cake walk and games with prizes. Games, hot dogs and drinks for children are free.
The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club is gearing up for their annual All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Supper on Friday night at the Sweetwater High School cafeteria. The fundraiser will be held before the Mustangs take on the Big Spring Steers in Mustang Bowl.
Serving begins at 5 p.m. and continues until kick-off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 each (for adults) and $6 each (for children 12 and under). The club is offering a special group rate of $5 each for parties of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased from any Kiwanis Club member or at the door the night of the supper.
BNSF Railway Company (BNSF) announced the development of a new BNSF Logistics Center as well as improvements to an existing rail yard and mainline infrastructure at a groundbreaking ceremony in Sweetwater. The new Logistics Center is designed to meet the growing supply chain needs of a strong energy corridor across Texas for many energy-related commodities in the Permian Basin and Cline Shale. The facility will also support the strength of Texas agriculture.
Funeral services for Scott Alan Haltom, 49, of Lubbock, will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Lake Ridge Funeral Chapel in Lubbock with Rev. Richard Petree officiating. A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. the same day at Slaterâs Chapel Cemetery in Nolan with interment to follow. Local arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Haltom died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Lubbock Covenant Hospital in Lubbock.

Isaiah McGee is Sweet-waterâs Football Player of the Week after his play in a 54-29 victory over Midland Green-wood.
McGee had 160 yards rushing and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 58 yards, and he also had a two-point conversion run.
On defense, he had five solo tackles, six assists, four tackles for a loss (including a sack) and an interception after being moved from safety to outside linebacker.
