The POW MIA Remembrance Ceremony
As you entered the banquet hall this evening, you may have noticed a small table in a place of honor. It is set for one. This table is our way of symbolizing the fact that members of our profession of arms are missing from our midst. They are commonly called POWs or MIAs; we call them "Brothers." They are unable to be with us this evening and so we remember them.
This table set for one is small - symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner alone against his oppressors. Remember!

THE MUSTANG BOWL TO HOST FIELDS OF FAITH EVENT ON OCTOBER 9TH
Students from Sweetwater and surrounding schools will be joining thousands of other youth on athletic fields all across the nation today to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the eighth annual national Fields of Faith event. This rapidly-growing, interdenominational outreach event will be held at more than 450 locations throughout the nation on this same date.
The City of Sweetwater recently earned two awards, which was announced during Tuesday's meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
City Manager Eddie Brown reported that for the 29th year, the city received the GFOA (Government Finance Officers Association) certificate of achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 2012 fiscal year. Recognition was given to the city's finance department for their work in attaining the award.
It might seem as if there's plenty of time left, but Election Day will be here before we all know it.
The Constitutional Amendment Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. At this time, however, voters can now start requesting a ballot by mail, in which Friday, Sept. 6 was the first day to apply.
The last day to register to vote was on Monday, Oct. 7. Additionally, the last day for the county clerk to receive the application to vote by mail is on Friday, Oct. 25.
Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department made a donation to the Nick Barton fund to help defer the medical bills the local paramedic (Sweetwater Fire Department) has incurred due to a motorcycle accident on Aug. 7, of this year.
Barton is still in rehab and doctors are hopeful that he will make a full recovery eventually.

Sweetwater ISD Open Houses continue this week with Sweetwater Intermediate School having their event from 5-6:30 p.m. this evening.
Sweetwater Middle School and Sweetwater High School will have their event from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Southeast and East RidgeÂ Elementary Schools will have their events from 5-6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Funeral services for Shari Lynn West Temple, 77, of Sweetwater will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Rev. Curtis Ward and Rev. Freddie Lopez will officiate with interment to follow at Temple Family Cemetery near her residence. McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 11 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Temple died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at her residence in Sweetwater.
