The 2013 Sweetwater Heart Walk is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Sept. 14 at the Sweetwater Mustang track field. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk starting at 9 a.m.
The local Heart Walk has been taking place for over 20 years and is a fundraising initiative which supports the American Heart Association (AHA). Two years ago, the walk was changed from its spring schedule to become a fall venue, according to event coordinator Jerrie Gee.
An 18-wheeler carrying propane tanks wrecked in Nolan County near Blackland Road on Friday morning.
After close inspection by first responders from the Sweetwater Fire Department, it was determined that although some of the tanks were damaged, none were ruptured or leaking and no threats were apparent.
The trailer split after the truck hit a telephone pole and the driver walked away from the wreck with no injuries.

The 2013-2014 tax rate and budget for the City of Sweetwater were adopted during Tuesday morning's city commission meeting.
Approval was given for the second and final reading of the ordinance fixing and levying the tax rate of 48 cents per $100 valuation. Since this year's proposed tax rate did not exceed the effective tax rate, a motion to adopt the ordinance did not require the language about "tax increase," as stated in 26.05 (b) of the Property Tax Code.
Graveside services for James Paul Owens of Sweetwater will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 at Sweetwater Cemetery. Rev. Herman Bealer will officiate with interment to follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Jose "Joe" Aguirre, Jr., age 76, of Sweetwater, (former resident of Del Rio, Texas), passed away on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 , at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2013 Brian passed away after his short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Brian was 38 years old.

The Mustangs won 39-31 at Andrews last week after allowing nearly 600 yards in a season-opening 46-30 loss to Eastland. Brecken-ridge, after winning 42-28 at Colorado City to start its season, was routed 48-3 by Vernon at home this past Friday to fall back to .500.
