Several county employees received service awards at Monday's meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners.

Mary Margaret Cox, the District Court Reporter, received her ten-year county service award during the meeting on Monday.
Nolan County continues to move forward with the process of applying for a grant from TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) for county roads damaged by the exploration, development or production of oil or gas, as some discussion was held at Monday morning's county commissioners meeting.
The supplemental road report from Precinct 4 was received and approved, which cited two additional roads which were already listed on the project list. Brief dialogue was also exchanged on possible county energy transportation reinvestment zones.
At the January meeting of the Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) Board of Trustees, a proclamation was presented by Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham declaring January as School Board Appreciation Month.
The document explained the role of a school board member, whose commitment to children in becoming successful learners comes about by tailoring education to a child's individual needs. By working closely with parents, educational professionals and other community members, school board members have the responsibility of ensuring a foundational structure for the school system.
Funeral services for Carroll Nelms Reed, 64, of Sweetwater will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mike Sells will officiate and interment will follow at Pyron Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014.
Reed died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 in Rankin, TX.
He was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Dequeen, AK. He married Marilee Gwiazdowski on Jan. 31, 1972, in Nanticoke, PA.
He loved golfing and fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a hard and honest working man.

After failing to sweep a basketball doubleheader here in its three previous opportunities, Sweetwater will get a final chance today when it hosts Monahans.
Itâ€™s also a chance for both the Mustang boys (1-4 in District 4-3A) and the Lady Mustang girls (3-4) to im-prove their playoff chances with a pair of victories.
