The Super Bowl is one of Americaâ€™s most highly anticipated sports events, when friends and family gather in homes, bars and restaurants to celebrate. As Super Bowl Sunday approaches and football fans across the country prepare for the game, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Watch UR BAC program is spreading the message to the public about designating a sober driver on Super Bowl Sunday, because Fans Donâ€™t Let Fans Drive Drunk.
Sweetwater and Abilene residents had the opportunity to learn about C-SPANâ€™s programs and resources on Wednesday, Jan. 29, by stepping aboard the C-SPAN Bus during a stop on its winter tour.Â
The Leadership Sweetwater class recently visited Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital during their health session and got a chance to tour the facilities, as well as learn more about the hospital and healthcare in Sweetwater.
Various purchases were approved by the Nolan County Hospital District board of directors at their meeting on Monday night, which was held at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
The purchase of 10 hospital beds and mattresses was approved, which came to the overall total of $128,000. Also, approval was given to purchase an infant warmer at the cost of around $9,700.
In addition, the purchase of a GE Logic E9 ultrasound unit was approved, which costs around $150,000. The unit will replace the current, older model, which will now be used as a back-up.

Funeral services for Sherman Carl Wade will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Stephens officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at Hopewell Cemetery near Liberty Hill under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at McCoy Funeral Home.

Sweetwater 8th grade boys will host tournament.
Highland junior high teams will host season-ending district tournament.
Roscoe junior high teams will play at district tournament in Highland.
Sweetwater varsity will play at Clyde (season-opening scrimmage), 5 p.m.
Sweetwater JV and varsity teams will host Greenwood in season-opening dual match starting at 4 p.m.
FRIDAY, JAN. 31
Sweetwater girls will play at Snyder â€” JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 6:15 p.m., freshmen at 7:30 p.m.
Sweetwaterâ€™s Jacob Peyton shoots in Tuesdayâ€™s game with Monahans.
Both of Sweetwaterâ€™s teams will play at Snyder on Friday.
Highland and Roscoe are again in a second-place tie in the District 13-1A boys basketball standings. The Hornets and Plowboys are both 4-2 in district play af-ter Highland crushed Lor-aine 60-20 and Roscoe was defeated by first-place Ira, 68-58, on Tuesday.
The Highland girls (8-0) received a district forfeit win Tuesday over Loraine and now lead Roscoe (6-2) by two games after the Plow-girls lost to Ira 46-40.
