Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital welcomed the 2014 New Year Baby on at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3.
Raydi Reshan West weighed seven pounds, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long. She is the daughter of Dakota and Amber West of Sweetwater. She was also welcomed by two sisters, Cloe, 6 and Valli, 2. Grandparents are Rita and Bobby Briscoe of Sweetwater, David West of Roscoe and Cindy and Francis Ciochon of Phoenix, Ariz.
Great-grandparents are Joyce West of Sweetwater and the late Bill and Mary Mann.
Jettie May McCrary Wood, 95, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in Kingwood, TX. A visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, from 11 a.m. to noon at McCoy Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Reverend James Baker officiating, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Christina Salinas, age 55, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center.
A rosary was held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by Lupe Medellin. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Deacon Bill Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Anna Lee Pattillo, age 82, of Dalhart, Texas (former resident of San Angelo, Colorado City, Hamlin and Sweetwater), passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in an Amarillo hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Clay Jacobson officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, from 8-11 a.m.
Sweetwaterâ€™s JV boys im-proved their record to 9-1 on Friday with an easy 42-7 win at Coahoma.
The trio of Hardy Esco-bar, Michael Lawrence and Denzell Moore all had 10 points for Sweetwater. Also scoring were Deshaun Williams with eight, Mark Lawrence with three and Matthew Trevino with one.
Sweetwater ended 2013 by winning all three games in the JV boys division of a tournament at Post.
Highland and Roscoe got girls district play off to a successful start by winning 13-A, Division II basketball games on Friday.
Roscoe won 46-22 over Hermleigh in its contest, while Highland opened de-fense of its 13-A, Division II title by beating Westbrook 79-34.
Shelby Brown scored 19 points to pace Roscoe. Eva Aguayo had 13, Sunshine Saddler six, Cha Cha Chavez four and Ashton Payne and Whitney Williams two for the Plowgirls (9-9 overall).
Blackwell, led by Matthew Lowryâ€™s 24 points, is 3-0 in District 14-A, Division II boys action after defeating Robert Lee 48-24 Friday. The Hornets are 9-2 for the season.
Mason Magness had 14 points while Ted Chambliss had six and Ethan Andrews and Jayden Jones two. The Hornets beat Robert Lee 53-41 in the JV boys game.
Blackwellâ€™s girls lost their game 48-22, falling to 1-4 in District 14-A, Division II and 3-6 overall. Robert Lee (3-2, 7-4) led 17-6, 27-13 and 38-14 at the quarter breaks.

Highland JV and varsity girls play at Ira starting at 5 p.m.
Highland JV and varsity boys at Paint Creek starting at 5 p.m.

COAHOMA â€” After leading by just one point at halftime, the still-undefeated Sweetwater boys basketball team caught fire over the final two periods en route to a 47-30 non-district win over Coahoma on Tuesday.
Sweetwater, now 10-0, led just 17-16 until out-scoring Coahoma 30-14 over the final two periods in the teamâ€™s first game of 2014.
