Trinity Baptist to call Pastor

February 28, 2014

Broadway Baptist Church
According to an article, Henry Ford asked some engineers to box the transmissions for his Model-T Fords in certain sized boxes. He gave meticulous dimensions and material instructions for these boxes. The builders were confused, but they did as they were told.
When the transmissions were delivered, the factory workers took apart the boxes and used them for the floorboards!  Mr. Ford was thinking ahead!

A special first pitch

February 28, 2014

The Sweetwater High School baseball team held a brief ceremony on Thursday to honor Wes Bishop, the former director of physical therapy at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, who died last October.
Bishop’s wife Margaret came out to throw the first pitch prior to the Mustangs’ game against Pampa, before receiving a baseball autographed by members of the team.
This year’s annual Wood Bat Classic was renamed the Wes Bishop Wood Bat Classic, honoring a man who made numerous contributions to Sweetwater’s baseball program and was also a youth baseball coach here for 20 years.

Clift no-hits Pampa in WBC opener

February 28, 2014

It doesn’t take many runs to give James Clift a comfortable lead when he pitches against Pampa.
He needed just one when he threw the opening game for Sweetwater’s baseball team Thursday at its newly named Wes Bishop Wood Bat Classic at Sportsman’s Park. But Clift got four runs while pitching a no-hitter against Pampa, the first of his varsity career.
Clift is now 3-0 over Pampa in the past year. This was his second straight shutout since last March when he pitched Sweetwater to a 6-2 win over Pampa at the 2013 Wood Bat Classic.

USG sponsoring Winter Olympic athletes

February 27, 2014

Everyone wants to win. Whether it's to attain victory, maintain a winning streak or to overcome the odds, the goal is to succeed. Especially in business.
The local Sheetrock company United States Gypsum, or USG, has a plan to win. And according to Jeff Grimland, the new plant manager at USG in Sweetwater, one way the company wants to implement the plan is through a new brand logo and tagline.
The new logo boasts two building blocks that represent who they are. The red block exudes confidence, while the gray block stands for humility.

Sweetwater's first game will be played at 6:30 p.m. today against Pampa. The tournament was renamed this year to honor Wes Bishop, the former longtime director of physical therapy at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and an avid supporter of youth sports in Sweetwater, who died this past October.

Lady Hornets will face lightning-quick Calvert in state semis on Friday

February 27, 2014

The Highland girls basketball team has faced a lot of shorter teams — most much shorter — on its way to a second straight appearance at the state tournament held in Austin.
Garden City, whom the Lady Hornets defeated 51-37 in the regional finals at Abilene Christian University, was the latest team to have trouble dealing with a Highland team that has four starters who stand 5-10 or taller.
