Sweetwater High School student Payton Moore was named Kiwanis Sophomore of the Year for the 2013-14 school year. She is the daughter of Mitch and Ryan Moore.
The date for this year's Taste of Sweetwater has been set, as announced by City Manager Eddie Brown during his report at Tuesday's city commission meeting.
The event will be held on Monday, April 14 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex, which shows the restaurant availability within Sweetwater. Proceeds from the Taste of Sweetwater benefit the local Senior Nutrition Activities Program, or SNAP.
Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) delegates have been selected from Sweetwater High School. Mickenzie Brownlow will serve as a delegate and Hannah Heredia as an alternate.
Every spring, more than 9,000 deserving high school sophomores from across the country are chosen to represent their high schools in HOBY State Leadership Seminars. The seminars allow students to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective leaders in their home, school and community.
Responding to the increased number of citizens wanting to assist law enforcement officials and build a stronger partnership in the fight against crime, Sheriff David Warren today announced that Nolan County Citizens are being invited to become Associate Members of the Sheriffsâ€™ Association of Texas.
Membership invitations will go out in the mail over the next several days, and in fact some local citizens may have already received a letter of invitation.
The dates for the Senior Interview Days were announced at Monday's meeting of the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors.
Kirstin Smith, the Marketing and Administrative Director for SEED, shared in her report that on March 31 and April 1, seniors from three area schools will take part in mock interviews to prepare them for the future workforce. Highland will participate in this year's event, along with Sweetwater ISD and Roscoe Collegiate ISD.
Brooks Seigle Davis, age 37, of Abilene (former longtime resident of Sweetwater) passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Ward Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 14, 2014 from 6-8 p.m.
Andra Madry Adams, 58, of Sweetwater, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Lloyd Wells officiating.Â Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
She was born May 29, 1955, in San Angelo, Texas and married Lynn Adams April 17, 1987 in Big Spring, Texas.
Funeral services for Melma Lee Johnson, 69, of Sweetwater will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Pastor T.J. Jackson will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A wake will be from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014 at McCoy Chapel.
Johnson died Monday, March 3, 2014, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
She was born Nov. 25, 1944, in Amarillo.
