Team Chip TKD to host Done With Bullying event Saturday

September 16, 2014

Team Chip TKD Sweetwater is taking a stand against a rising problem with America's youth. They have joined forces with the MAAB (Martial Artists Against Bullying) Organization, to bring the "Done with Bullying" program to the community. A few students of Team Chip were chosen to take part in the training and become certified peer mediators for the program.

APPLAUSE music series opens Oct. 4 with ‘Broadway Lights’

Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium opens its new Applause Music Series with the production of “Broadway Lights” on Oct. 4. Kicking off a season of musical wonder, the concert brings Broadway classics to Sweetwater – with a Texan twist.
“Broadway Lights” builds off the success of a pre-season concert with Sweetwater Municipal Band, directed by Billy Weems and special guests Annika Johansson, Brandon Wilhelm, and Rick Piersall accompanied by Martha Taylor.

Kiwanis Club to host pancake supper Friday

The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club is gearing up for their annual pancake supper set for Friday night, Sept. 19, at the Sweetwater High School Cafeteria. The fundraiser will be held just before the Sweetwater Mustangs vs. Snyder Tigers football game. Serving begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m. The Kiwanis welcomes all take-out orders.

Funeral services for Dixie Laverne Boyd, 75, of Sweetwater, will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Ollie Wilburn officiating. Interment will follow at Newman Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at McCoy Funeral Home, located at 401 E. Third Street in Sweetwater.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hendrick Hospice, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, TX 79601 or Rhema Valley Church, 3304 E. Broadway, Sweetwater, TX 79556.

SMS football teams start with two wins

Two of the four Sweetwater Middle School football teams came away with wins in season-opening games this past week.
The eighth grade Red and White teams both won big against Breckenridge, while the seventh grade Red lost to Breckenridge. The seventh grade White lost to Dublin in their opening game.

SHS v’ballers split dual match in Lubbock

September 16, 2014

All three of Sweetwater High School’s volleyball teams played dual matches Saturday at Lubbock against Lubbock Monterey and Midland Greenwood, and the varsity and JV teams return to action today when they play host to Miles star-ting at 5 p.m. Sweetwater’s varsity starts at 6:15 p.m.
