Over 800 fed by Sweetwater Jaycees

The Sweetwater Jaycees delivered over 800 meals to local residents on Thanksgiving Day during their annual feed. The Jaycees also expected at least 100 people to eat at the Jaycee Barn where the event took place. SHS cheerleaders rooting for a state championship

This year's Sweetwater High School varsity cheerleaders are getting the chance to do something no other SHS cheer squad has done since 1997.
They are showing their support for the first Sweetwater football team since that year — and only the third in school history — to still be unbeaten through the first 12 games of the season. The Mustangs put their 12-0 record on the line at 2 p.m. today when they face Vernon in the regional round of the Class 4A, Division II playoffs at Mineral Wells' Ram Stadium.

Man dies in early morning fire

November 28, 2014

A Sweetwater man died Friday morning when a fire engulfed four apartments at Jack Lambert Drive. The Sweetwater Fire Department received a call about 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning about the apartment fire. The fire began in a common attic of one of the middle apartments, but the cause of the fire is still unknown and fire marshals are being sent to investigate. All other apartment residents escaped the blaze safely. All four apartment roofs were burned off and the interior of each apartment received smoke and water damage as well.

RPMH picks up awards for leadership, quality of care

Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital has earned its share of accolades during its time as Nolan County's premier health care facility. Recently, the hospital received two more awards from prestigious organizations recognizing the staff's medical prowess.

Black Friday starting early

When Black Friday started in the 1960s, as a means to ring in the Christmas shopping season, retailers hoped to move their finances from the “red” to the “black.” But almost 55 years later, businesses are almost foregoing the original plans and beginning their sales before the Thanksgiving turkey is even out of the oven.

Alene Jennings Clayton, 56, of Palm Springs, Calif., died on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014.
She was born on Oct. 14, 1958 in Loraine, Texas in Mitchell County to Booker T. and Dorothy Jennings.

Cooper girls beat SW

November 26, 2014

The Sweetwater girls fell to 0-4 after losing, 50-36, to Abilene Cooper in basket-ball action here Tuesday.
The Sweetwater boys went to Andrews and lost, 67-52, in their opener Tuesday.
