Today, August 1, sign-ups for Sweetwater Youth Soccer will be held Friday, August 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hibbet Sports for children ages 4-12 as of September 1.
Several events are lined up on Saturday. A benefit will be held for Melinda Torres who is battling leukemia will start at 11 a.m. at the Jaycees barn.
Barbecue sandwich combos will be sold as well as tickets for a 50/50 raffle, barbecue grill raffle and silent auction with great items. There will also be a donor drive â€” cheek swabbing for stem cell match. Age requirements for the cheek swab are 18 to 55 years of age.

Sweetwater High School volleyball practices will begin Monday, Aug. 4 at the SHS gym. The morning session on Aug. 4 will get started with roll check at 6:30 a.m. and continue until a lunch break from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to coach Liz Miller. The afternoon session will be held from 1-3:45 p.m., and hitters and setters will remain at the gym to practice from 3:45-4:15 p.m.
Dr. James Marvel, M.D., Orthopedic Surgeon at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH), was the guest speaker at Julyâ€™s Lunch and Learn Seminar on joint replacement. Using actual operating tools, including one of his own design, Dr. Marvel explained the process of a full knee replacement and demonstrated the different parts that go into a new knee (shown).
He explained that, in most cases, a total joint replacement should be looked into after all other avenues are exhausted, especially if the patient is young.

The Nolan County Commissioners met on Monday morning and approved a server upgrade for the Sheriff's Department.
The upgrade had been discussed as part of recent budget hearings. Due to the fact that the Sheriff's Office will be in a new location and along with security concerns, the sheriff's department will need their own server.
Additionally, the server for the Justice of the Peace will be getting some sort of server upgrade, after the office was informed that their current server will only be supported for one more year.
Sweetwaterâ€™s 9-and-under AA Legends Baseball Club recently played in a USSSA tournament held in Andrews, compiling a 3-2 record despite playing together for only about a month, and taking first place in the silver bracket with three wins on the final day.
Today, July 31, Story Hour at the County-City Library for parents and their children will be held at 10:45 a.m.
