Today, November 18, the Jury called in the 32nd Judicial District Court has been cancelled.
Also, tonight at 6 p.m. in the SIS Cafetorium, Kathy Hale and Kristie O'Dell-Farias from Region 14 ESC will be presenting on how Math TEKS in Texas have changed and what it means.
This presentation is for parents with students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. There will be refreshments and a drawing for $50 iPad scholarships.

Randy Alexander Anthony Rodriguez

Graveside services for Randy Alexander Anthony Rodriguez, 6, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Fraley officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Family visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
He died on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at his residence.
He was born on March 11, 2008 in Sweetwater. He was a first grade student in Sweetwater.

Polio: Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department monthly focus on diseases

Polio is an infectious disease caused by a virus that lives in the throat and intestinal tract. It is most often spread through person-to-person contact with the stool of an infected person and may also be spread through oral/nasal secretions. Polio used to be very common in the United States and caused severe illness in thousands of people each year before polio vaccine was introduced in 1955. Most people infected with the polio virus have no symptoms; however, for the less than 1% who develop paralysis it may result in permanent disability and even death.

First compressed natural gas station opens in Sweetwater

amp Trillium, LLC, the joint venture between ampCNG and Trillium CNG™ announced that the first public access compressed natural gas (CNG) station in the city of Sweetwater has officially opened. Located at 9409 S. I-20 Frontage Road, the amp Trillium station will service Class-8 trucks as well as any CNG vehicle. It is the fourth of seven public fueling stations to be opened as part of a previously announced agreement with Dairy Farmers of America and Select Milk Producers to convert a portion of their diesel fleets to CNG-powered trucks.

Sweetwater ISD offers gifted education

Sweetwater ISD conducts a program for students with above average potential in academic and creative-productive thinking skills in grades K-12. This gifted education program is designed to challenge students to accelerate above and beyond the regular school curriculum.
Nominations will be taken until Nov. 24.

Doug Sitter State Farm seeking donations for WTCAC

Doug Sitter State Farm is once again partnering with The West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center and taking donations of toiletries for the families they served this year.  Donations such as toiletry items including soap, toothpaste, shampoo, toothbrushes, deodorant, lotion, hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, Kleenex and Q-tips are needed. Donations will be taken until Tuesday, Dec. 9. The center will be distributing the items to the families for Christmas.

Francisco Rudolfo (Rudy) Herrera, Jr., age 50, of Sweetwater, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014 at his residence.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by David Mendez.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 at Holy Spirit Parish (Immaculate Heart of Mary) with Bishop Joe Vasquez officiating. Burial will follow later at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Stamford. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

S’water girls lose game at S-Angelo L’View

November 17, 2014

Sweetwater traveled to San Angelo Lake View for a non-district girls basketball game Saturday and lost to the Maidens, 70-33, as their record fell to 0-2.
