SW teams pay visit to B-Spring

The Sweetwater baseball team ended its losing streak with a 5-1 win here Tuesday over Greenwood, while the Sweetwater softball team had its best offensive effort in district play despite falling to 0-7 in a 15-11 loss to Greenwood.

Today will be sunny with a high near 86. Winds will be from the northwest at 5 to 10 mph becoming east-northeast in the afternoon.
Expect partly cloudy conditions tonight, with a low around 60 and east-southeast winds at 5 to 15 mph. After midnight, winds will shift to the south.
This weekend, we'll see highs in the upper 80s, with breezy conditions throughout the entire weekend as high as 30 mph. Saturday's low will be around 66, with Sunday night dropping down to 45.

Many attend ninth annual Family FunFair

Many area families attended the ninth annual Family FunFair, hosted by the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center and High Sky Children's Ranch on Wednesday. Many organizations provided games and prizes and food was provided by the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club.

Community Captains to host block party this weekend

The Community Captains of Sweetwater will be holding a block party this weekend, April 11 and 12, at Jones Park starting at 6 p.m. Friday evening. The first annual Community Captains Softball Tournament will kick off Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Ten co-ed teams from Abilene, San Angelo, Roby and the surrounding area will compete in a double elimination tournament. Concessions will be served throughout the day, including brisket sandwiches, sausage on a stick, Frito pie, nachos, chili dogs, snow cones and much more.

Local churches to perform Easter Cantata

An Easter Cantata "He's Alive" will be performed at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Nolan County Ministerial Alliance and is a collaboration of choirs from First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church, under the musical direction of David Woods, First Baptist Church music director. Free tickets are available at First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church and First
Presbyterian Church.

4-3A track to wrap up today

Advancing to area competition will be the goal for Sweetwater athletes today as the District 4-3A track meet, which began Monday, ends its two-day run in Big Spring. A top-four finish is needed to qualify for the area meet in Pecos, which will be held April 18.
Sweetwater’s Cierra Knox qualified for area Monday with a fourth-place finish in the girls shot put (30-9), and Sweetwater’s De’andre Gatson was fifth in the boys triple jump (40-0 3/4).

Regional golf qualifier

Michael Hunt of Sweetwater watches his tee shot on the No. 1 hole at Sweetwater Country Club during the final round of the District 4-3A boys golf tournament on Tuesday.
Hunt shot a 228 total for his three rounds to qualify for Region I-3A tournament, which will be held April 14-15 at Lubbock’s Shadow Hills course.

WTCAC hosts Child Abuse Awareness Banquet

"Safe haven" and "neutral environment" were words Hattie Allen with the Children's Advocacy Centers of Texas used to describe child advocacy centers Tuesday night during the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center's annual Child Abuse Awareness Banquet and fundraiser. She was the guest speaker for the evening.
