Water is the lifeblood of every community. Republican Charles Perry â who has served in the Texas House of Representatives (District 83) since 2010 â declared water to be his cornerstone issue during his stop in Nolan County Tuesday.
"Water is the common theme in the 51 counties (which comprise Senate District 28)," Perry said during an interview with the Reporter. "Sweetwater is a great example. Oak Creek Reservoir is dry."
Perry believes upgrades to infrastructure and modern technology will be the components most likely to help alleviate the region's water woes.
The August Lunch and Learn Seminar held at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital highlighted two medical mission trips in Africa taken by hospital employees.
Bonnie Garcia, supervisor of the local OR, headed to Kenya to work with Kenya Relief, an organization founded by Steve and Greta James after they met the child sponsored by their late daughter. Since its inception, over 1400 people have gone to Migori, Kenya to offer assistance.
The trip, which took place in the first part of August, fell during the country's winter season, where temperatures reached between 70 to 75 degrees.
Sweetwater High School fans who missed last weekâs opening scrimmage will get a chance to meet the Mus-tangs today â and not just the ones who participate in a final preseason scrimmage vs. Clyde at the Bowl.
âMeet the Mustangsâ will begin with the freshman and JV football teams skirmishing Clyde at 6 p.m.
After they play, the SHS band as well as the schoolâs cross country, tennis and volleyball teams will be in-troduced at around 7 p.m.

Current option holders to Sweetwater home football games have until Friday, Aug. 22 to renew reserved season tickets at the Sweetwater ISD administration office on 207 Musgrove. The tickets are good for five home games. Reserved ticket sales for the general public go on sale Monday, Aug. 25.

As the time between now and the Sept. 9 special election grows shorter, the candidates have been scrambling to make their mark on the campaign trail.
The field vying for the Senate District 28 seat visited Sweetwater on Tuesday. The seat became vacant when former Sen. Robert Duncan took the reins as chancellor at Texas Tech University.
Republican Jodey Arrington is considered to be one of the frontrunners in the race, and one of his opponents is fellow Republican Charles Perry, a 1980 Sweetwater High School graduate. Former Sweetwater mayor Greg Wortham is running on the Democratic ticket.
The 2nd Annual Sweetwater Strong Red Run will be held Friday, Aug. 22. It will end the week of training for the SISD staff and be a community wide celebration for the start of the 2014-2015 school year that begins on Monday, Aug. 25. Everyone will meet at 8 a.m. on the corner of 14th and Ragland.
Jason Lee (Jaylee) Allen, age 9, of Blackwell, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 at the family ranch.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at the Blackwell First United Methodist Church, Blackwell, Texas. Burial will follow at Decker Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
