At Monday night's meeting of the Nolan County Hospital District's board of directors, approval was given toward a few purchases.
The items approved for purchase were some orthopedic equipment which will assist with hip and joint replacement surgery and would be used by new orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Marvel. An update on Dr. Marvel was given, in which positive feedback has been heard as he begins his practice.
Memorial services for Eddy R. Mayfield, 65, of Millersview, TX will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Trinity Baptist Church. Rev. Eric Von Atzigen and Rev. Malcom Brown will officiate. Mayfieldâ€™s wishes were to be cremated.
Mayfield died Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
He was born Oct. 9, 1948, in Sweetwater. One of Eddyâ€™s loves was to go fishing.
Donald Richard De Vore, age 75, of Sweetwater, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at his residence.
His body was cremated. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Donald was born on Feb. 5, 1939, in Midland, Texas to Thomas Asbury and Martha Alva (Ware) De Vore. He was a Baptist. He worked at Edwards Air Force Base as a computer technician before retiring.

The Region 14 ESC: Migrant/Bilingual/ESL will be hosting a BlockFest on Saturday, May 3, 2014 in the Nolan Room of Region 14, located at 1850 State Highway 351, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The free event is for families with children from 8 months to 8 years of age.
The hands-on, block-building extravaganza will teach math and science through block play. The event will increase parent knowledge of early development in the areas of math and science education, while also providing opportunities to increase social skills and literacy opportunities for young children.
An update on the bond election activities for the Phase 4 renovation and expansion at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) was given by hospital administrator Donna Boatright during her monthly report at the Nolan County Hospital District's board of directors meeting held on Monday night.
Around 60 people came to vote on the first day of early voting. Early voting will take place at the RPMH administration office weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., now through Tuesday, May 6.
