Thousands attended the 56th Annual Sweetwater Jaycees Worldâ€™s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up.
The total pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnake weighed totaled 3,890 pounds, an increase from last yearâ€™s total of 2,361 pounds. Those bringing in the most pounds of rattlesnake were first place Andy Lee with 681 pounds, second place Dennie Braswell with 592 pounds, third place Darrell and Kat McIntyre with 346 pounds, fourth place Eric Timaeus with 342 pounds and fifth place Bill Stinson with 282 pounds. The longest rattlesnake was caught by Darrell and Kat McIntyre and measured 76 inches long.
Funeral services for Patricia Wallis, 84, of Sweetwater, are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.
Wallace died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at her home.

It may be spring break for Sweetwater ISD students all week, but the baseball and softball teams are both in action here today. Sweet-waterâ€™s softball team starts District 4-3A play Friday at Snyder. The baseball team is now 11-3 after defeating Lake View, 8-1, in its fourth and final game Saturday to win the championship of the West Texas March Classic in Midland. Sweetwater had won eight straight entering todayâ€™s game vs. Andrews at Sportsmanâ€™s Park.

Dana Hohn of Sweetwater and Alexis Lara of Roscoe compete at girls state meet in Corpus Christi.
Sweetwater varsity and JV teams play at Snyder (district openers), 5 and 7 p.m.
SATURDAY, MARCH 15
Sweetwater JV will host Jim Ned, noon.
Stephen May is pictured in recent action for the Sweet-water High School baseball team, which was off to a 10-3 start and on a seven-game winning streak going into Saturdayâ€™s final game of the West Texas March Classic tournament in Mid-land.
The Mustangs will host Andrews at noon Monday, and also host Estacado on Thursday before starting district play on March 18 at Mid-land Greenwood.

Many traveled to Sweetwater to attend the Sweetwater Jaycees 56th Annual Worldâ€™s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up. Many media outlets also visited, including Univision, a large Spanish station. Roger Ramirez, with the Lente-Viajero show, interviewed Sweetwater Jaycees Melinda Gomez and Pascual Ortiz for the show.
