Emmanuel Fellowship to host missions, chili and dodgeball tournament

The public is invited to join the fun Saturday, March 28, at the Texas State Technical College Student Center for the 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off and Dodge Ball Tournament hosted by Emmanuel Fellowship Church of Sweetwater. Games and chili voting begin at 10 a.m.

United Way gun raffle to benefit local agencies

The drawing will be held on Sunday afternoon, March 15, at the Sweetwater Rifle and Pistol Club Gun, Knife and Coin Show in the foyer at the NCUW booth. The three prizes to be raffled are a Ruger 50th Anniversary 10/22 .22LR, a Digicam- JRC/SW 40 Cal AR and a PINK Degicam- JRC 9mm 17-RD Mag. Adjustable Stock. Prizes will be drawn in the order that they appear. Winners need not be present to win and must be able by law to own and receive a firearm. The prize is non-transferable.

Rattlesnake Round-Up Schedule of events announced

Theresa Cowart, Sweetwater Jaycee President and Chairman of the 57th Annual World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up, has released the schedule and prices for the upcoming Round-Up on March 12-15, 2015. The Jaycees have released that they will be paying $10 per pound for live Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes. The Jaycees have collected more than 300,000 pounds of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes since the start of the Round-Up in 1959. Cowart stated “this price will be paid all three days with no weight limit on number of pounds brought in.”

County to mull payroll options

A disagreement between county employees took place during a meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners Court Monday about how the county’s payroll system is set up.

Hunt 2nd at Andrews

Michael Hunt of Sweet-water’s bid for a second boys medalist title in the 2015 golf season came up just short on Saturday at Andrews’ tournament. His two-day 149 total put Hunt in tie for the lead after 36 holes with three other play-ers, but he lost on the third playoff hole and finished second to Austin Lovato of Andrews Black.

SW athletes win several medals at Odessa

Sweetwater won several individual medals Friday at Odessa’s West Texas Relays to begin its track season.
Also, the Sweetwater boys were second to Denver City in the team standings with 128 points.
