Three former prep N-County athletes in TSMCA all-star games at W-Falls

Three recently-graduated high school athletes from Nolan County will be participating in all-star games held by the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association on July 18 at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
Highland’s Madison Moseley is on the West team for the girls basketball game that is scheduled to begin at noon at Midwestern State’s D.L. Coliseum.

SW eliminated at state 7-on-7 event

Sweetwater’s state title bid ended on Friday at the Texas 7-on-7 Championships with a 39-33 first-round loss to Brock in the championship bracket at College Station.
Sweetwater went 3-0 in pool play Thursday to reach the championship round as it defeated Lorena, Krum and Goliad, all by 20-22 point margins, but lost by a 39-33 score in the first bracket round for the second straight year. Sweetwater lost to Tyler Chapel Hill by that score in 2014.

Sweetwater sweeps its pool, advances to 7-on-7 championship bracket at Col. Station

July 10, 2015

Sweetwater won all three of its pool games Thursday at the state 7-on-7 tournament in College Station, advancing the team into the championship bracket for the second straight year.
Sweetwater — whose team is coached by Kyle Lawrence — was to play its first Division II bracket game at 9 a.m. today against Brock, with the winner to take on either Albany or Gatesville at 10:15 a.m.

Local music students recognized at recital

July 10, 2015

Piano and guitar students of Noreen Carson finalized their year with the annual Spring Awards Recital on May 31 in the First Baptist Church sanctuary. The recital was followed by an awards presentation highlighting students’ accomplishments throughout the 2014-2015 school years. Six guitar students and 34 piano students were acknowledged and awarded participation certificates for their dedication to developing their musical knowledge and skills.

Hunter Ranch & Realty celebrated their opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. Broker Toni Gill thanked those in attendance and shed a few tears as she cut the ribbon to the new addition to Sweetwater.

USG donates to local Feed Our Kids program

United States Gypsum Company Sweetwater Plant Manager, Jeff Grimland (left) and Quality Manager, Doug Richards, present a check to Bro. Matt McGowen and Dr. Karen Vaughn for the local Feed Our Kids program. Feed Our Kids is a service ministry provided by Trinity Baptist Church along with volunteers and donations from all over the Sweetwater area. Food handler’s class to be offered at courthouse

A food handler's class will be offered by Labeth Carter, agent from the Nolan County Extension Office and Linda Kite from the Health Department on Tuesday, July 28 from 2-4 p.m. at the Nolan County Courthouse in the third floor conference room for anyone interested in food safety, especially for all restaurant employees or people that run any temporary food booths. Blood drive at the Lions Club on July 15

Meek Blood Center will be set up inside the Lions Club building, located at 1501 Lamar, on Wednesday, July 15. The blood drive will take place from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. This will be the only blood donation location in Sweetwater that day.
