TxDOT releases travel alert

Hazardous driving conditions continue today. TxDOT urges drivers to reconsider any travel plans over the next few days until conditions improve. 
TxDOT maintenance crews across the Abilene District’s 13 counties are monitoring road conditions and treat bridges, overpasses and critical areas with salting materials. Crews will continue to work around the clock throughout the duration of this storm to ensure roads remain passable, but travel should be avoided.

Goldthreate receives PEO grant

Tabitha Goldthreate of Sweetwater has received a grant from Chapter BH of P.E.O. International. The Program for Continuing Education Grant is a need-based grant to women whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families. P.E.O. is a philanthropic educational organization that educates women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans. Chapter BH has been active in Sweetwater since 1946.

New Year's Eve fundraiser dance to be held in Roscoe

A New Year's Eve fundraiser and dance will be held at the Roscoe Community Center on December 31 from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
DJ Anthony El Guero will provide Tejano and country music. There is a $5 cover charge.
A food and soda concession stand will also be open. Money raised will go to Kevin Pantoja for his trip to Japan as a student ambassador representing Texas.

Sweetwater Youth Ministerial Alliance hosting New Year's Eve lock-in

The Sweetwater Youth Ministerial Alliance will host a New Year's Eve Lock In on Wednesday, December 31.
The event is open to students in grades 6-12. It will take place at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex, beginning at 10:00 p.m. and ending at 7:00 a.m. the next morning.
Students must be dropped off by 11:00 p.m. and picked up by 8:00 a.m. The charge is $10, which will provide access to the lock-in and most food and drinks for the night.

Jones earns RPMH Employee of the Year honors

If you ask Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital employee Lori Jones what her job title is, she'd tell you she's the staffing coordinator. But she also handles the company's payroll, serves as secretary to five different nursing departments, and if that isn't enough, she also instructs CPR classes for her colleagues.
