Destination Imagination teams honored by SISD school board

The Sweetwater Intermediate School Destination Imagination Teams; the Sneaky Snakes – Will Dempsey, Haylee Gartrell, Kate Hall, Mackenzie Hawkins, Justin Hefner and Brenna vonAtzigen; and the Stone-Agers – Tabatha Baugh, Mea Cedillo, Jackson Dodd, Trey Jimenez, Tyler Marlett, Noah Hannah and Claire Paty were recently honored by the Sweetwater ISD School Board.

House Resolution commemorating TSTC penned by State Rep.

April 7, 2015

State Representative Kyle Kacal, R-College Station, authored House Resolution 825 last week commemorating Texas State Technical College's 50th anniversary and honoring its administration, staff and students.
The resolution was read on the floor of the House of Representatives during the 84th Texas Legislature and among other things also recognized TSTC's collaboration with industry, government agencies and other institutions of higher learning.

Nolan County Heart Walk set for April 18

On Saturday, April 18, the Nolan County Heart Walk will be held to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living in a fun, family-oriented environment while raising money for the American Heart Association (AHA).
Registration will take place at 9 a.m., with the official walk starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Sweetwater High School field house.

Hunt is 2-4A medalist

BIG SPRING — Michael Hunt lost a total of three shots from his first-round lead, but he still captured District 2-4A golf medalist honors Monday with a six-shot win as the Sweetwater junior earned a second con-secutive trip to the regional tournament.

S’water falls to B-Spring in 10

April 7, 2015

On Monday, Sweetwater jumped out to a 9-5 lead over Big Spring in the top of the ninth inning after a four-run explosion featuing RBI hits by Morgan Gomez, Megan Holsey, Jaya Atkins and Lauren Jones. Howev-er, Big Spring immediately answered in the bottom of the ninth with four runs of its own, then scored again in the 10th for a 10-9 softball win to move into second place in District 2-4A.

Jaycees host annual Easter egg hunt

The Sweetwater Jaycees hosted their annual Easter egg hunt at Fraley Park on Saturday morning. Many children enjoyed collecting plastic eggs filled with treats.

Highland's Hall to speak about bullying

April 6, 2015

Highland junior Kailee Hall will be heading to Waco later this month to tackle the topic of bullying. In Highland's small school, bullying isn't prevalent, but it can happen anywhere.
A speech about bullying, which was prepared by Hall, will be presented to a panel of three judges representing the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT). Hall is the lone state finalist from Highland and advanced to state by winning her grade at the regional competition in Abilene last month.

After three years in business, an area pet sitting company is extending its services to Nolan County.
Whiskers ‘N’ Wags, located at 5450 CR 161 in Colorado City, has served Mitchell and Scurry counties with professional pet sitting and in-home boarding. Owner Rebecca Corbell not only cares for dogs and cats, but other pets like reptiles, birds, farm animals, and exotics.
