Company makes presentation to county for new internet service

During Monday's Nolan County Commissioners meeting, Mark Mims and Les Sanderson with Balatize, LLC made a presentation on the possibility of providing the Courthouse and new jail with internet service.
The company develops networks and provides high-speed connectivity needed in the area. Founded in August 2013, Balatize went live on February 1st of this year.
Mims serves as president, with Sanderson as the CTO and secretary. The company has local investors and serves 50 clients and businesses, including Midwest Finance, EC&M, Smartt Move Trucking and Ludlum Measurements.

Ruby Acuna

Trent — Ruby Acuna, 90, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 in a local hospital. A rosary was said at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel. A mass took place at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 13, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church with Reverend Terry Brenon officiating. Burial was in the Trent Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Lady Mustang softball campers

Twenty-two girls participated this past week in a Lady Mustang Softball Camp held at the Jerry Collins Complex.
In no particular order are Kara Gomez, Kyra Gomez, Mikayla Gilmore, Madyson Gilmore, Ariah Olguin, Xandria DelaCruz, Ellie Espinoza, Alyssa Gomez, Kiara Garcia, Addison Sloan, Vanessa Bugarin, Kaitlyn Vera, Alexis Gonzales, Kallie Gonzales, Hailey Minton, Faith Rosas, Summer Crain, Madison Soles, Aaliyah Martinez, Makenzie Ince, Hadyn Rotan and Becky Castillo.

Sports camps

Two All-American Vol-leyball Camps will be held in Sweetwater.
A camp for students entering grades 6-8 will be held June 16-17 from 3:45-5:45 p.m. both days at the Sweetwater Middle School gym. Also, a camp for students entering grades 9-12 will be held June 16-18 at the SMS gym with two sessions: from 9-11:30 a.m. and also 12:30-3 p.m. The cost is $153 per player.

Sweetwater has four Little League all-star teams competing in District 5 tournaments that start June 21.
A complete schedule for all of the tournaments will be released later this week.

Ex-Mustangs star for North

SAN ANGELO — A pair of former Sweetwater High School players had prominent roles for the North all-star team in its 3-0 win on Friday over the South in the inaugural Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Baseball Game at Foster Field in San Angelo.
James Clift won the Jerry Don Gleaton MVP award for his hitting and pitching contributions. His seventh-inning RBI single for the North broke up a scoreless tie and he also had a ninth-inning sacrifice fly. Also, Clift was the starting pitcher and he threw three innings, striking out three batters.

State Comptroller office visits to interview TSTC welding graduate and instructor

The State Comptroller’s Office visited Texas State Technical College recently. They are doing story which includes TSTC’s Mobile Welding Trainer. The story is slated to be released in mid-July.
The Mobile Welding Trainer is a completely self-contained, semi-trailer that includes a classroom, eight welding stations and an instructor’s station. All welding and cutting equipment, generator and exhaust systems are permanently installed.

SEED board discusses oil and gas impact

The economic impact study of the oil and gas activities in the West Texas Energy Consortium region has been completed and was discussed at the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors' meeting held Monday.
Counties within the region are Nolan, Scurry, Fisher, Martin, Howard, Mitchell, Glasscock, Sterling, Reagan and Irion. The neighboring counties included in the study are Taylor, Coke, Runnels, Coleman, Brown and Tom Green.
