Wilkinson is SQ at Odessa

Roscoe’s Lyndi Wilkinson recorded a personal-best time of 1:00.93 Saturday in the girls 400-meter dash at the Region I-2A track meet in Odessa to qualify for the state meet in Austin.
Wilkinson placed fourth in the prelims Friday with a time of 1:01.7, but Saturday she trailed only one runner, Canadian’s Haevyn Risley, who ran a 1:00.15.

SW, Borger to start best-of-3 playoff Friday

Sweetwater’s baseball team begins the playoffs Friday when the Mustangs play Borger in a best-of-3 bi-district series at Lubbock Monterey High School, according to head coach Roland Herrera. Game 1 is at 6 p.m. Friday, while Game 2 begins Saturday at 2 p.m.

Sweetwater’s softball team defeated Pampa, 14-4, on Saturday to win its Class 4A bi-district playoff series held at Lubbock Coronado High School. Sweetwater goes to the area round next to play Fort Stockton this week. Fledgling wrestlers to stage Sweetwater show

Fans of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and similar professional wrestling companies have the chance to support a local upstart organization on June 15.
Future Television Wrestlers (FTW) — named after the members’ dreams of one day either competing in or rivaling the WWE — is comprised of area residents who are passionate about bringing live wrestling events to Sweetwater.

In honor of the National Day of Prayer, the community of Sweetwater is invited to participate in a 12 hour prayer vigil at the Sweetwater Prayer Center at 1418 Hailey Street. Everyone is welcome to participate any time from 7:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, to unite in prayer for the nation and the community.

Rabies virus confirmed in Sweetwater

A rabid skunk was shot and killed in Sweetwater earlier this week.
The skunk's head was analyzed and clinicians confirmed that the animal tested positive for the rabies virus — the first known case in about four years, according to Dr. Bud Alldredge, a local veterinarian and rabies expert.

County still in drought despite recent rains

The recent rains that have fallen in the area have offered some immediate relief, but according to Dale Adams, general manager of the Wes-Tex Groundwater Conservation District (GCD) in Nolan County, the precipitation has not led to a long-term remedy.
“We’re still in a drought,” said Adams. “The rain has made the grass a little greener, but we’re not seeing it in our lakes.”

The Deep Creek Art Festival is a juried art show and sale hosting area artists. The Festival will be held at the Scurry County Coliseum, 900 E Coliseum Blvd. on May 8-9.
The invitation only Patron’s Preview is Friday, May 8th from 5-6 pm. The Festival is open to the public Friday 6 - 9 pm. and Saturday 10 am- 4 pm.
