Roy Emanuel Harris

March 28, 2014

Roy Emanuel Harris went to be with his Lord on March 25, 2014. He was a loving father and grandfather. He lived life to the fullest, living by the motto “IF MAN MADE IT, I CAN FIX IT.”
He was preceded in death by parents, Floyd and Margaret Harris; first wife, Ruth; second wife, Carmel; son, Larry Joe Harris; and grandson, Brian Harris.
He is survived by daughter, Ginger Davis; son-in-law, Arthur Davis; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Starnes and Chris Wilson.
A gravesite service will be at the Garden of Memories in Sweetwater on April 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m.

Mark Davis Crawford

Mark Davis Crawford, 58, of Sweetwater, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. His body was cremated and no further services are planned at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Crawford was born June 11, 1955 in Ayres, Massachusetts. He married Debby Jo Byrne on Dec. 17, 2006 in Anson.
He was a Baptist. Mark was a welder most of his life and lived in Anson for the past 17 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era.

SIS Jump Rope Team performs at Baylor University

Students on the Sweetwater Intermediate School Jump Rope Team recently performed during halftime of a basketball game at Baylor University. They will perform at a San Antonio Spurs game on Saturday.

Coliseum to host barrel races this weekend

The West Texas Barrel Racing Association will have their 2014 Extravaganza in Sweetwater at the Nolan County Coliseum this year, after having the event in Abilene for over 20 years. "Sweetwater has been so gracious to us," said West Texas Barrel Racing Association President Jennifer Bufkin.

East Ridge Elementary students give campus report at SISD board meeting

A campus report from East Ridge Elementary was given during the March meeting of the Sweetwater ISD Board of Trustees.
Several second and third graders joined principal Vicki Mayberry to inform board members about the programs that are taking place on campus.
Students are learning how to play chess, in which the different game pieces were explained and the chess move "knight's corral" was demonstrated. In addition, "The Zone" allows students to work on their math and reading skills by reading aloud and answering questions thirty minutes a day.

Kara Lehnert to participate in National Spelling Bee competition

A resolution honoring the Regional Spelling Bee Champion, Sweetwater Middle School student Kara Lehnert, was also presented at the March meeting of the SISD Board of Trustees. Pictured are SMS principal Jeff Withrow, SMS Spelling Bee sponsor Julie Cypert, SMS vice principal Danette Price, Lehnert, and her mother Yvonne Lehnert. Kara will be participating in the National Spelling Bee competition in May, which will be held in Maryland.

DECA state qualifiers honored by SISD school board

TSTC West Texas to offer evening classes

Texas State Technical College West Texas will offer evening classes for the Diesel Technology and Pipe Welding programs beginning this fall. The demand for Diesel and Pipe welding graduates continues to increase due to recent oil plays in the area. Students will attend Monday through Thursday from 6-10 p.m. and on Saturdays.
