The Sweetwater Youth Baseball League will have a Pitch, Hit and Run contest on Saturday, April 26 at 9 a.m. at Sweetwaterâ€™s Major League field. The event is free to all contestants, but participants must have their birth certificate to register. There will be four age groups for boys: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. The girls softball league has chosen not to participate this year.

Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s All Sports Banquet will be held Monday, April 21 starting at 6 p.m. at the Nolan County Coliseum annex.
A report on the upcoming bond election for Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) was given at the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors meeting held on Monday morning.
The vote for the Phase 4 Renovation and expansion at the hospital will be held on Saturday, May 10.
Highland ISD class among winners
The Maned Wolf puppies at the Abilene Zoo are nameless no more.
Several hundred zoo guests cast ballots to name the pups, choosing among a selection of South American-inspired names to reflect the pupsâ€™ indigenous habitat.
The winning monikers were â€śSofiaâ€ť for the female pup and â€śCruzâ€ť for the male.
Those who voted for the winning names were then entered into a drawing for two paw print paintings pawed by the puppies.
If you're looking to put a little spring in your step, the second annual "Beat the Street for Little Feet" just might be the ticket!
The event will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at Cornerstone Christian School, which is part of 4th and Elm Church of Christ, and will include a 5K run, a 50K bike tour and a one-mile fun run. Each race costs $25 per person.
All funds raised from the event will go toward program enhancement and scholarships, as the school strives to lay a foundation educationally, spiritually, socially and emotionally for children ages one through eight.
Graveside services will be held for Harley Jane Pitts on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 2 p.m. Services will be held at the Blue Goose Ranch at Sweetwater, Texas with Pastor Warren Harkins of McAlester, Oklahoma officiating. Harley Jane was the infant daughter of Hillary and Ryan Pitts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is survived by her parents, Hillary and Ryan Pitts; her grandparents, Josephine and Tom Henderson of Sweetwater; Dorothy and Jim Martin of Marlow, Oklahoma and Vicki and David Pitts of Duncan, Oklahoma.
The church family at Trinity Baptist Church is blessed to welcome our new pastor, Bro. Matt McGowen, to the pulpit this Sunday. Easter Sunday is an historical date for our church. The very first worship service in Trinityâ€™s newly-built sanctuary in 1958 was held on Easter Sunday. Our previous pastor, Bro. April 20, 2014 marks the 69th anniversary of the U.S.A.A.F. C-47 plane crash south of Sweetwater, Texas. The following is an article published by The Nolan County News on Thursday, April 28, 1945.
Death at dawn Friday morning of 25 Army Air Force officers and enlisted men from the Midland Army Air Field in the crash and burning of an Army transport in a pasture on the Bob Withers farm, 3 miles south of Sweetwater, brought the war still nearer home to the residents of this area.
At the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors meeting held on Monday, a report from WETS (Wind Energy Turbine Services) was given.
In attendance at the meeting were three of the four co-owners of the company--Larry Martin, Mark Meneses and Jason Hefner. James McCasland makes up the fourth member of leadership.
