Area girls "Blossom" at TSTC event

With jobs requiring skilled labor popping up all over Texas, area colleges and high schools have begun shifting focus toward STEM-based careers.
Standing for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, STEM programs can be found at Roscoe High School, which is making national headlines for its innovative approach to teaching. Sweetwater High School has also gotten in on the action, teaming up with Texas State Technical College (TSTC) and other schools to offer graduates a chance to leave with an industry-specific certification or even a two-year degree.

Open date for city pool postponed

Due to pump issues, the Sweetwater Municipal Pool will not open this Memorial Day weekend in typical fashion.
According to Pool Manager Larry Hopple, the original pump--which was installed in 1978--has been replaced, but adjustments to fit the new pump are ongoing and will not be ready by this weekend.

Historic WWII troop carrier to visit WASP Homecoming at Avenger Field

At the 10th annual WASP Homecoming on Saturday, May 23, the National WASP WWII Museum will host one of the most historically significant aircraft of World War II. Douglas C-47 Skytrain, U.S. Army Air Force Serial No. 42-32832, will grace the skies above Avenger Field and later be available for inspection outside the WASP Museum Hangar.

Those rain chances will increase to 50 percent tonight, with mostly cloudy conditions and a low around 57. Winds will remain from the north-northeast at 10 to 15 mph.

Coliseum’s digital sign installed

The new Nolan County Coliseum sign went up at the intersection of Elm and Broadway on Monday. New, digital and two-sided, the sign replaced the marquee-style sign which advertises coliseum events that once stood in the same location.

Second skunk tests positive for rabies

May 19, 2015

For the second time in just over two weeks, a skunk captured in Sweetwater tested positive for rabies.
Rabies is a deadly disease which can affect both animals and humans. It also has a scarily high mortality rate once clinical symptoms develop, which is why Animal Control Officer Don Kite warned local residents to keep a close eye on their household pets.

Nolan County Foundation awards 23 scholarships

On Wednesday, May 13, the Nolan County Foundation hosted a reception at the Sweetwater Country Club to honor the 2015 scholarship recipients and their parents.

Lady Mustang camps planned for next month

May 19, 2015

Two Lady Mustang sports camps will be held in June.
A Lady Mustang Vol-leyball Skills Camp has been scheduled for Tuesday through Friday, June 9-12 at Sweetwater Middle School, while a Lady Mustang Basketball Camp will be held Monday through Thursday, June 15-17 at the SHS gym.
