Numerous track athletes from the West Texas area will be in Nolan County to compete in one-day meets scheduled this week.
After an absence of a few years, Sweetwater will once again be hosting a meet with the return of the Rattlesnake Relays on Thursday, while Roscoe will again be hosting junior high and high school meets the next two days.
Junior high teams will participate in the Blackland-Divide meet on Thursday, with the high school athletes competing Friday in the varsity and JV meet.
The Rattlesnake Relays will have four divisions â€” varsity boys and girls and JV boys and girls.
The Sweetwater Middle School girls track teams began their season by com-peting at Colorado City this past Thursday.

8TH GRADE GIRLS
Several JV members of the Sweetwater boys track team competed this past week at Snyderâ€™s Canyon Reef Relays.
The 1600 relay of Max Nemir, Mark Lawrence, Max Gomez and Quentin Wetsel placed second, as did the sprint medley of Daniel Commacho, Deshaun Williams, Nemir and Keegan Von Atzigen and the distance medley of Adan Sanchez, Bruce Wingo, Austin Watts and Brandon Gutierrez.
Three members of the Sweetwater High School boys golf team competed at the Andrews tournament this past week.
Alex Castil-lo shot 79-79-158; Michael Hunt shot 83-92-175; and Mark Lawrence shot 118-106-224.
Today will be partly sunny with a high near 61. Winds will be from the south-southeast around 15 mph, with gusts topping out around 20 mph.

Each year, the Worldâ€™s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up attracts more than 20,000 visitors to Sweetwater. For the past 55 years, the event has been a means for locals to protect livestock by controlling the snake population as they begin to emerge from winter hibernation.
As participants and visitors participate in the Round-up, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) seeks to raise awareness of how people should respond to snakebites during the weekend and throughout the year.
A Sweetwater woman and her dog perished in a fire on the 1900 block of Bristol Street on Monday afternoon, according to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden.
According to Madden, the Sweetwater Fire Department received the initial call about the fire just after 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
Nolan County United Way's 2013 Rattlesnake Round-up gun raffle will benefit the nine local agencies assisted by NCUW including Big Country Medical Reserve Corp, Boy Scouts, Cancer Services Network, Gateway Family Services, Girl Scouts,Â Senior Nutrition Activities Program (SNAP), Sweetwater Back Pack Buddies, West Texas Children's Advocacy Center and the Women's Resource Center.
Raffle prizes include three Savage Axis XP's ~ Camo- Rifle/Scope Packages with one 22-250, one 243 and one 270.
Texas National Bank will host the monthly Chamber of Commerce Coffee and belatedly celebrate Texas Independence Day at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the bankâ€™s lobby at 400 East Broadway.
Guests will be invited to enter a drawing for a framed Texas flag print to be given away at the conclusion of the coffee.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 149 calls for service, issued 15 citations and made eight arrests from March 1-3, 2013.
