County approves agreement for legal services

During the Monday morning meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners, approval was given toward a general services agreement with the Bickerstaff, Heath, Delgado, Acosta law firm.
The agreement would allow the firm to assist the county attorney in various civil matters, which includes advising and representing Nolan County for a set fee. Since the agreement is a professional service, a finding will be entered that it is exempt from the competitive bidding requirements of the local government code.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 42 calls for service, issued six citations and made three arrests on Jan. 28, 2013.

The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

• Female juvenile, 10 — Aggravated sexual assault of a child.

O.C. “Spot” Hale

January 30, 2013

EASTLAND – O.C. “Spot” Hale, 101, of Eastland, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 in Eastland. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Daugherty St. Church of Christ with Larry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Eastland City Cemetery directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

SW girls tied for 3rd in district after winning at Monahans; ‘Stangs lose

MONAHANS — The Sweetwater girls basketball team did what it had to do Tuesday in order to keep its playoff hopes alive this season as it went to Monahans and won, 54-43, to snap a three-game losing streak.
The win for Sweetwater (18-13, 4-4 district) came in its final road game of the year and, coupled with Big Spring’s 60-24 loss to first-place Wylie on Tuesday, moved Sweetwater into a third-place tie in District 4-3A with the Lady Steers.

Nita Faye Clark Giesler

January 30, 2013

Nita Faye Clark Giesler, 81, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, in Boerne, Texas, of complications from a hip fracture. She was a native of Sweetwater, Texas and was born April 13, 1931, to Garland Felix (G.F.) and Helen Sawyer Clark. Nita attended Sweetwater High School. 
Nita married Daniel Lee (Dan) Giesler in the First United Methodist Church, Colorado City, Texas, June 28, 1948. Married for 64 years, they were always best friends; their bond was a partnership forged from love and laughter, enduring through life’s hardships and trials.

Sweetwater hosts Transmission Summit 2013

Sweetwater hosted more than 125 energy and infrastructure leaders from more than a dozen states around the USA last week for the 5th annual Transmission Summit 2013 on the campus of Texas State Technical College West Texas.
The event included project updates, business networking and industry sponsor exhibits. The event was sponsored by the Texas Wind Energy Clearinghouse.

County burn ban reinstated

January 29, 2013

After a two-week time frame, the Nolan County Commissioners approved to reinstate the burn ban for the county at their meeting on Monday morning.
Collectively, the commissioners determined that the land throughout the county was not looking as "green" due to the lack of precipitation. The reinstatement will stand until the next meeting date, when the item will be considered once again by the commissioners.
