The Sweetwater Mustang baseball team was sent off to Lubbock for the Region I-3A quarterfinal best-of-3 series at Lubbock Christian Universityâ€™s Hays Field on Friday with several schools having a honk rally. The Mustangs lost their first game last night by one run and will play again today at 2 p.m. Check back for scores.
All nine starters on the Sweetwater softball team â€” which this year won the first playoff game in the programâ€™s 17-year history before losing in the area round â€” have been honored by receiving all-district recognition in 4-3A.
Five of the starters made the first team â€” infielders Suede Shirley and Jerren Villa, outfielders Kelsi Crosson and Megan Holsey and pitcher Maty Montgomery â€” while two were named to the second team and two others earned all-district honorable mention.
LUBBOCK â€” Speed made the difference in deciding the winner of Fridayâ€™s opener between Sweetwater and Andrews in their Region I-3A quarterfinal baseball series at Lubbock Christian Universityâ€™s Hays Field.

A Lady Mustang Basketball Camp will be held June 3-6 at the middle school gym on 305 Lamar Street. The camp is for students who have completed grades 2-8.
The camp sessions will be from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $35 which includes a T-shirt. Pre-registration is appreciated.
A concession stand will be available. The campâ€™s goal is to improve playersâ€™ skills through instruction in individual skills and fun team competitions.
Four people were transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital on Thursday after three school buses bumped together after school, causing only minor injuries. One bus was disabled as well.
The Nolan County 4-H Meats Judging Team recently won the District 7 4-H intermediate judging contest.

A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 11 people this past week. Six of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Ethan Charles Stringer was indicted for indecency with a child by contact, a second degree felony. Court documents state that Stringer's victim was a male, younger than 17 years of age. His bond was set at $50,000.
Devon Energy recently presented four local fire departments with checks for $1,000 each.
