Eight Nolan County high school football players — four from Roscoe and two each from Blackwell and Highland — received All-Big Country recognition this week from the Abilene Reporter-News in either Class 1A or 2A.

JV girls nip Levelland for 1st district victory

Texas Williams scored 18 points and Sonora Medellin 17 as Sweetwater’s JV girls held off Levelland, 47-46, here Tuesday for their first win in district play.

SHS students donate to fellow student who lost her house in recent Sweetwater fire

Students Paige Anderson, Callie Boswell and Michelle Perez were saddened to find out that their classmate Emily Bloomquist lost her home on Jan. 4, to a fire. In an effort to support their classmate, the students contemplated hosting a bake sale, asking students to donate clothing and donating gift cards until they settled on sponsoring a penny drive at the high school campus.

SHS, ASU partner for dual credit program

Representatives from Sweetwater High School and Angelo State University announced Tuesday that students attending SHS can now enroll in classes offered by ASU, a four-year university located in San Angelo.

Update: NCSO searching for county’s most wanted fugitive

January 14, 2015

Update: According to authorities with the Nolan County Sheriff's Office, Mendez has been arrested and booked into the Nolan County Jail.

Jacob Cole Mendez aka Cole Mendez, has outstanding warrant #18968 that was issued out of the Nolan County Multicounty Court at law on Dec. 30, 2014 for the offense of burglary of a vehicle and was named the county's most wanted fugitive by the Nolan County Sheriff's Office. His last known address is 1910 Chester Street in Sweetwater and has recently been moving from place to place.

Bitter Creek water notice rescinded

Bitter Creek Water Supply customers have been under a boil water advisory since last Tuesday, but representatives from the company say the H2O is now good to go.

Levelland is too much for SW to handle

Against District 2-4A fav-orite Levelland, Sweetwater got the early jump on the visitors when Lauren Jones scored 48 seconds into the contest Tuesday. But the Loboettes soon took control en route to an 83-21 win at Sweetwater’s gym.
