Work continues at First Financial Bank in Sweetwater on the construction of a new motor bank and remodeling of the interior of the bank's main office.
The newly-added motor bank will be located on the corner of Broadway and Elm Street, on the north side of the existing bank building. The additions will consist of six drive-up lanes, a commercial lane and night depository.
Oncor Electric Delivery will be having a public hearing on Wednesday evening, Aug. 24, 2011 about their habitation conservation plan beginning at 5:30 p.m. It will take place at the Sweetwater campus of TSTC (Texas State Technical College West Texas) West Texas.
The plan comes so that the company can complete construction projects in the future, in which permits from the Texas Fish and Wildlife Service must be obtained to protect species that live in the state.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 45 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on Aug. 22, 2011.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

• Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon — 400 block of Fisher.

The Sweetwater volleyball team got a split decision Tuesday when it played a three-way match at Water Valley that also included San Angelo Lake View.
The Lady Mustangs (10-7 overall) started out against Lake View and won 25-19, 25-13, 25-21, but then lost to host team Water Valley 25-27, 22-25, 20-25.
Darrell Hulme recorded his seventh career hole-in-one while playing Sunday at Sweetwater Country Club.
Hulme used a six-iron to record his latest ace while playing the No. 17 hole.
The feat was witnessed by Hulme’s daughter, Sandy Drake.

An Abilene man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in the murder of a Sweetwater man.
Juan Rodriguez on Friday agreed to plea agreement and received 30 years in prison for his role in the beating death of Roland Lopez in June.
Police arrested Rodriguez and Michael Hernandez for the beating death, in which police say the pair used baseball bats to beat Lopez to death at a home on North 10th St. in Abilene.
Hernandez was sentenced to 50 years in prison last month.
With the clock on summer vacation ticking down to zero, the New Teachers Luncheon on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 at the Sweetwater campus of TSTC (Texas State Technical College) West Texas welcomed those who would embark on their local educational journey.
Three campuses were highlighted: SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District), RISD (Roscoe Independent School District) and TSTC West Texas.
