The roar of motorcycles usually signals that some bikers are getting together to go somewhere and have some fun riding down the highway. This year for the first time in Nolan County, the roar of motorcycles will signal the start of the Goodfellows Motorcycle Toy/Canned Good Run. Bikers are known for many things, but one thing they know within their world is that there is generosity among bikers. There is a saying in the biker world that says that a fellow biker will help whenever possible, with whatever means necessary.
Live entertainment returns to the Texas Theatre this weekend. The Sweetwater Texas Theatre Acquisition and Renovation (STTAR) board of directors, along with KXOX and Perfect City Productions, is hosting an evening of live entertainment this Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Texas.
Several members from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) were in Sweetwater on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 28, to assist local law enforcement in a recent accident on the 1300 block of Lamar.
Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda stated that DPS has a reconstruction team, in which they rebuild different crash scenes. Different objects are used in the computer-generated reconstruction, which maps out the scene from its start and progresses, leading up to the crash to determine the position of the people and vehicles.
The Superintendent's Report was given during the November meeting of the Sweetwater ISD Board of Trustees, which highlighted a wide variety of issues within the school district.
One update given was on the district's food service, as changes had to be made locally--along with all the other districts in the nation--due to the amendments in the National School Lunch Program. Though feedback has been varied, a majority of students are not pleased with the changes.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 50 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on Nov. 27, 2012.
The SPD received 25, 911 calls.

Graveside services for Lee Roy â€śL.R.â€ť Sells, 79, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Sweetwater Cemetery. Rev. Jeremy Thompson, Ken Kerby, and Rev. Mike Sells will officiate with interment to follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 30, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Sells died Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Abilene.

Several Highland players earned recognition on the all-District 7, Division I football team that was an-nounced recently.
Running back Michael Hyde, special teams player Ron Covington and defensive lineman Shelby Howard made the first team. In addition, six players earned second team honors and five players were given all-district honorable mention.
Hyde (linebacker, kicker), Covington (utility player) and Howard (fullback) also made the second team as did Garrett Stewart at tight end, Ethan Wilson at spread back and safety and Gaga Soedarsono at wide receiver and defensive lineman.
The Roscoe girls basket-ball team lost at Hawley, 48-46, on Tuesday.
The contest was tied up 31-31 after three quarters, but Hawley outscored the Plowgirls 17-15 in the final period. Roscoe (4-2) was paced by Mirian Solisâ€™ 11 points while Faith Boren and Carolina Perez had nine points apiece.
