Allen, Baucom among 5 honored

Highland’s 6-1 junior post Sierra Allen has been named to the Abilene Reporter-News All-Big Country girls basketball team for Class 1A, Division II that was announced today.
Also, Highland girls coach Shea Baucom is the Repor-ter-News’ All-Big Country coach of the year.

Cline Shale Alliance to meet April 12

The next scheduled regional meeting of the Cline Shale Alliance is scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2013 at the campus of TSTC West Texas in Sweetwater. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in “The Center’ seminar room. 
Registration and reservations can be made online at www.clineshalealliance.com. At the home page click on the “events” button to register and reserve a seat. 
Speaker topics for this meeting include oil and gas, pipe lines and base load gas power plants. Communities will also be giving updates on local and regional oil and gas activities. 

Minion over Sweetwater

Many in Sweetwater saw a peculiar sight on Easter Sunday when a large Minion blimp was flying around neighborhoods in town.
Universal Pictures is promoting "Despicable Me 2" scheduled for release on July 3, with an elaborate aerial advertising campaign in partnership with Van Wagner Communications’ Airship Group.

DPS Joint Task Force successful in capturing 45 fugitives, seizing contraband

LUBBOCK – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today announced that a DPS joint task force made up of various divisions within the department conducted an operation in the Lubbock region last week that resulted in the capture of 45 wanted fugitives and the seizure of illegal narcotics.

Jaycees host Easter egg hunt

The Sweetwater Jaycees hosted their annual Easter egg hunt at Fraley Park for children of the community.
Hundreds of plastic treat-filled eggs and many other Easter prizes were sought after at the hunt. Shown is Donavin Adames taking part in the annual hunt.

Joyce Marie Burnett Parrish

Joyce Marie Burnett Parrish, 67, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, beloved mother, daughter, sister and aunt, passed away at home into the loving arms of our Lord on March 17, 2013. Joyce was born on March 26, 1945, in Sweetwater to Mancell C. and Ruby M. (Weaver) Burnett.

Boys golf team 6th at district

Sweetwater is tied for sixth place after shooting a 352 during the first 18-hole leg of the boys district tournament at Snyder.
Sweetwater has two of the 12 teams that teed off at the Western Texas College Course on Thursday. The second leg of the tourna-ment is this Friday at Abi-lene’s Maxwell Course.
Big Spring leads with a 301 total followed by Wylie (309), Snyder (312), Sny-der No. 2 (341) and Wylie No. 2 (342). Greenwood and Sweetwater both shot 352 in the first round.
