SAN ANGELO â€” The Sweetwater boys basket-ball team got a great in-dividual scoring effort from Kaleb Hoover in its final non-district game on Tuesday as the 6-2 sophomore torched San Angelo Lake View for 28 points. But he was vir-tually a one-man crew, as the Mustangs came away with a 44-29 loss.
Sweetwater (9-14) was able to stay close until Lake View (7-14) pulled away down the stretch after leading the Mustangs by just three points near the end of the third period.
The Sweetwater City Commission met for the first time in 2012 on Tuesday morning, Jan. 10 at City Hall.
A variety of action items were presented at the meeting and approved, including the authorization of city staff to go out for bids relating to the construction of a new dining room and offices for SNAP, the senior nutrition program.
City Manager Eddie Brown gave some background information on the current facility's condition, in that leaks have been seen when precipitation falls. Further inspections found that there were possible problems with the structure.
Members of Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater welcomed home one of their own last Thursday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2011.
Damon Chrismer had arrived at the Abilene Regional Airport after serving in Iraq and Kuwait for 206 days. His wife and two children met him at the airport and brought him home to Sweetwater to drive by the church where friends and fellow church members were waiting with balloons and signs the church youth had made to celebrate his arrival.
Sweetwater Christian School is welcoming a familiar face in local education as their new director.
Tracy Young took on her new duties on Thursday, Jan. 5, of maintaining the daily operations and running the campus. Mrs. Young has 12 years experience in the Sweetwater Independent School District. However, she is no stranger to the preschool program. When the school was originally incepted under the name of St. Stephen's, Mrs. Young taught a four-year-old class.

Highlandâ€™s Tyler Falcon has been named as a second team linebacker on the Six-Man All-Big Country foot-ball team by the Abilene Reporter-News and also received honorable mention as a running back.
Falcon had 76 solo tackles with 20 assists, 12 tackles for a loss and seven sacks, and also forced four fumbles and recovered one.
SHS hoopsters try to keep the wins coming
On Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, the Sweetwater Police Department led a search along with the Nolan County Sheriff's Office, 32nd Judicial District Attorney's Office investigators and the Department of Public Safety at 209 E. Avenue B, after obtaining a search warrant.
According to Sweetwater Chief of Police Jim Kelley, several people were allegedly operating a methamphetamine lab in the house and selling the controlled substance from that location.
During a called School Board meeting held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, Highland ISD School Board voted to hire Duane Hyde as their new Superintendent.Â
Hyde was previously in the position of the schoolâ€™s Secondary Principal, a position that he has held since 2005.Â Prior to that, he had also been principal for Merkel ISD and for Blackwell CISD.Â His experience also includes math teacher, coach and Athletic Director.Â
The Sweetwater Police Department is currently investigating a robbery that took place over the weekend on the 1900 block of Chester Street in Sweetwater.
On Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, officers responded to the home in which three people allegedly entered the home of an 82-year-old man by kicking the back door open, held him against the wall and took items from his home.
Items stolen include money, a watch and several other items. No arrests have been made in the case, but officers continue to investigate.
