County receives much needed rain

Nolan County has recently seen some much needed rain in the area.
On July 26, 2012, Oak Creek received 0.78 inches of rain, Lake Trammell received 0.95 inches of rain and Lake Sweetwater received the most with 2.36 inches of rain. For 2012, Oak Creek has received 13.60 inches of rain, while Lake Trammell has received 14.60 inches of rain and Lake Sweetwater has received 13.95 inches of rain.
The filter plant received 0.61 inches of rain with its total for the year at 11.98 inches of rain.
Booster B has received 12.75 inches of rain for the year, with 2.20 of those inches on Thursday.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 38 calls for service, issued six citations and made no arrests on July 26, 2012.

The SPD received 31, 911 calls.

Accidents:
• 1200 block of Lamar.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had four calls for service, served two civil papers and made one arrest on July 26, 2012.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Alfonso G Arevalo, 31, of Sweetwater — Theft by check with previous conviction.

Calls for service:
• 911 — CR 109.
• Reckless driver — I-20 MM 249 W/B.
• Stranded motorist — FM 608.
• Inmate transport/medical — Rolling Plains ER.

High attendance at Mustang Football Camp

A large group of students — a total of 76 — entering grades 3-9 invaded Mustang Bowl this past week to participate in a Mustang Football Camp. In addition to emphasizing skills and drills, the camp included punt, pass and kick instruction and competitions.

Meet the Coaches event is Aug. 16 at SW’s Dairy Queen

Sweetwater High School fans will get a chance to meet the new SHS coaches at a “Meet the Mustang Coaches” event which is set for Thursday, Aug. 16 from 6-8 p.m.
The event will be held at Sweetwater’s Dairy Queen on 1608 Lamar Street.
All of the proceeds from the event will be used for the Sweetwater High School athletic program.

Several attend soccer camp

Students enjoyed this year's week-long Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp this year which finished up on Friday, July 27, 2012. Each day included individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily World Cup tournament.

Local band to perform at Tejano Music National Convention

The local Kiwanis Club chapter was treated to a mini-concert during their weekly, noon-time meeting held on Wednesday, July 26, 2012 at Bee’s in downtown Sweetwater.
Chapo Cerda and David Ruiz of Thoze Guyz--a musical group that produces what they call “crunkjunto” music, played several songs to the civic club.

Local teacher ordained to ministry

The path towards ministry can be filled with many twists and turns, and Jay Neal, longtime resident of Sweetwater, is intimately familiar with just how winding that path can be. On Sunday, July 15, Lillian Jane “Jay” Neal was ordained into ministry at Emmanuel Fellowship Church in Sweetwater. Her ordination follows a recent retirement from a 29-year career as a public school teacher and marks an exciting new season in her life and spiritual journey.
