An airplane from the Texas Forest Service drops fire retardant onto the fire near Lake Trammell in Nolan County.
Area firefighters were still battling a large blaze on Saturday afternoon in Nolan County near Lake Trammell. The fire began around 2 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011, near a barn just off of County Road 145, near Camp Boothe Oaks according to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden. According to the Texas Forrest Service, 500 acres have already been burned. The Sweetwater Fire Department lost a truck during the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Nolan County authorities.

Carolyn Ann Pittman-Selinger, 72 of 3314 Sherbrook Road, Odessa, Texas, passed away on the 6th of June, 2011, at Hospice House in Odessa.
Carolyn was born Carolyn Ann Pittman in Sweetwater, Texas, on February 2, 1939, to Roy and Eugenia Pittman. She graduated from the school system in Sweetwater and attended SMU in Dallas. She was later employed as a stewardess with Central Airlines.
Adelina Maria Beltran, of Colorado City passed away June 8, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Colorado City Cemetery with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating .

Nolan County's money is already hard at work.Â
The Nolan County United Way has distributed their first allocation for the year. This year there are nine agencies receiving funds: The American Red Cross, Gateway Family Services, SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program), Back Pack Buddies, WTCAC (West Texas Child Advocacy Center), Cancer Services Network, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts and Women's Resource Center.Â

In Texas the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline dropped five cents according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. The national average also dropped five cents. This is the fourth week in a row gasoline prices have dropped and the average cost of gasoline in Texas is 31 cents less than it was a month ago.
The statewide average is $3.58 and the national average is $3.73. The Texas statewide average is 15 cents below the national average.
