Enjoy a Hollywood performer in Sweetwater on Saturday night at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium where award-winning pianist and contemporary artist, Kristine Mirelle, will perform live with the Sweetwater Municipal band.
A Roswell, New Mexico native, Mirelle describes her music as an infusion of swing, classical, hip hop and soul. What started out with singing on doorsteps and playing the piano in the homes of people who would allow her, has turned into a career in Hollywood performing, singing and song writing.
As Christmas nears, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is helping local families document this yearâ€™s holiday by hosting â€śAn Afternoon with Santaâ€ť. Taking place on Saturday, Dec. 15, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy cookies and have a free photo taken with Santa Claus.
A Christmas Celebration with Santa Claus will be held at the Texas Theatre from Dec. 14-16 in Sweetwater.
"Help fix the 'broken spirit of Christmas' by joining us in this narrated Vaudeville production which will captivate you as each world class performer participates in revitalizing the Christmas spirit," said event organizers.
Among the talents presented will be an NBA halftime performer of the tight wire, Rolla Bolla, juggling, a hula hoop star, comedy, aerial acts and chair balancing.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 39 calls for service, issued two citations and made three arrests on Dec. 12, 2012.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

Dylan Bennett takes a shot for Sweetwater while being guarded by a pair of Brownwood defenders in Tuesdayâ€™s non-district game at Mustang Gym.
Bennett scored 22 points in leading the Mustangs past the Lions, 63-60. The boys travel to Bangs for another non-district game at 7:30 p.m. today while the Lady Mustangs continue non-district play Saturday with an 11:30 a.m. game at Graham.
Both teams host Colorado City next Tuesday.
Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s freshman boys and JV girls basketball teams still have spotless season records after knocking off Brownwood teams here on Tuesday.
Sweetwaterâ€™s JV girls are 12-0 after their 41-26 win. Cierra Knox had 12 points, Shaneese Brown nine, Mad-die Jones eight, Jaya Atkins four, Lexi Castillo three, Bianca Castillo and Nisha Williams two and Abby McPherson one. Sweetwater led 9-2, 18-11 and 32-15 at the breaks.
A pair of Sweetwater Middle School boys basketball teams won first-place honors when SMS hosted a two-day tournament this past Friday and Saturday.
Sweetwater No. 2 won the seventh grade division after beating Merkel 28-4, Snyder 31-20 and Sweetwater No. 1 24-16. The No. 1 team beat Snyder 22-20 and Merkel 14-5 and placed second.
Sweetwater No. 1 won the eighth grade division after beating Snyder 21-12 and Merkel 37-20 and tying Sweetwater No. 2 17-17. Sweetwater No. 2 also lost to Merkel 32-14 and fell to Snyder 19-18.

Members of the Nolan County Foundation Board are reminding spring 2013 Nolan County high school seniors that the Nolan County Foundation will be promoting its annual Scramble for Scholarships Golf tournament scheduled for April 20, 2013 to be held at the Sweetwater Country Club.
At the Nolan County Commissioners' meeting on Monday morning, December 10, the commissioners took action to approve an order authorizing the issuance of a general obligation bond for 2012 not to exceed $10 million. The bond approved by the commissioners came in at $9,480,000.
