Although he's actually a Big Lake native, Shane Mobley said his hiring Monday as head football coach and athletic director at Sweetwater High School feels like coming home.
In a sense, he's right.
Mobley — unanimously hired by the Sweetwater ISD board at its regular monthly meeting to replace Craig Slaughter, who resigned last month— not only has deep roots in West Texas, but is returning to a place where he has coached previously and where his wife, Tecka, grew up.
"I'm very fired up for this," he said. "The fact is, I'm ready to come back to West Texas with my family."
The Nolan County Crime Stoppers have announced the Crime of the Month.
On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, it was reported to the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office that between Thursday, April 5, 2012 and Tuesday April 10, 2012 unknown person(s) entered an electric sub-station. Once inside the sub-station the person(s) took copper grounding strap off a piece of equipment. The copper grounding strap is described as being four (4) inches wide by three-eights (3/8) inches thick and comes in various lengths. The location of the electric sub-station is in south Nolan County.

Today will be Sweetwater vs. Snyder day at both the baseball game at Newman Park at 7 p.m. and at the softball game that starts at 6:30 p.m. at Jerry Collins Complex, and the stakes are pretty high in both.
The baseball team’s situ-ation is the most critical as the Mustangs, with a 2-4 district record, may not be able to afford another loss to get into the playoffs.
A Sweetwater win would leave both teams 3-4 in district play with a game left.
Nolan County athletes of-ficially began their partici-pation in high school regio-nal competition Monday, though only one athlete — Sweetwater’s Alex Castillo — saw action.
