Sweetwater High School tennis player Zac Bax makes a face while hitting a return.
Bax and Bryan Vause teamed up for a second-place finish in boys âAâ doubles at Brownwood while Michael Redondo and Brandon Howell teamed up to win consolation in boys âBâ doubles.
Also, Tyler Stacy was second in boys âCâ singles at Brownwood and Victoria Carly was second in girls âCâ singles.
Alexis Thompson and Ashley Lara of Sweetwater will compete at the girls state powerlifting meet on Saturday after both of them placed second at regionals. The state meet will be in Corpus Christi.
Thompson lifted a total of 515 pounds to finish second in the 114-pound class at the regional meet in Fort Stockton. Lara lifted a total of 630 pounds in the 198-pound class.
Both are making their first trip to the state meet for Sweetwater.
Donald Baker of Sweet-water will compete at the boys state meet to be held March 23 in Abilene. He will be competing in the 148-pound weight class.
Sweetwater had a number of JV athletes compete at its Rattlesnake Relays meet this past Thursday.
The JV boys scored 139 points to finish second to San Angelo Centralâs 234.
Jonathan Browning won three events as he placed first in the 100 dash (11.16), triple jump (38-5 1/2) and and high jump (6-0), while Deshaun Williams won the long jump (18-8 1/2).
Browning and Williams were also on the Mustangsâ first-place 400 relay (47.16), as were Marquees Jenkins and Austin Kamer.
The Sweetwater boys golf team shot a one-day 339 total to place fifth out of 20 teams at Seminoleâs tourn-ament.
Alex Castillo (80) was 12th among medalists. Also on Sweetwaterâs team were Michael Hunt (85), Mason Andrews (86), Mic-hael Hazard (88) and Mark Lawrence (112).
The next tournament for Sweetwater will be held in Lamesa on March 19.

Texas country artist Josh Grider will be in Roscoe for a performance at The Lumberyard on Friday, March 15.
Grider is currently featured on the "Troubadour, Texas" television series as an artist "chasing the dream". Prior to his local performance, he held the #1 spot on the Texas Regional Radio Report for two weeks in a row, as well as the #2 spot on the Texas Music Chart, for his song "Lonestar Highway".

Toward the conclusion of the meeting of SEED's (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board of directors, an executive session was held to discuss various matters.
Following the closed meeting, the agenda listed for the board to "review and consider approving a resolution from the City of Sweetwater requesting SEED's assistance in funding improvements to a portion of their water/sewer lines."
However, while a motion was made on the matter, a second failed to be offered, thus killing the motion.
Miss Texas DaNae Couch visited several Sweetwater schools while visiting Sweetwater this past week for the Rattlesnake Round-Up. Couch also attended the Miss Snake Charmer Pageant and was seen at the Rattlesnake Round-Up all weekend.
Couch graduated with distinction from Baylor University's Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Public Relations. After graduation, she began pursuing her Doctor of Jurisprudence at Texas Tech University School of Law where she is in her third year.
Two blood drives were originally planned to take place in Sweetwater on Thursday, March 14. One drive was planned to take place at the Nolan County Courthouse and the other at the Lions Club building from noon until 6 p.m., however, only the blood drive at the Nolan County Courthouse will take place tomorrow.
