Paramedic Program first in area to earn national accreditation

The Texas State Technical College West Texas Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic program is the first college in the area to earn national accreditation through The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Jeremy Dan Jacques, 40, of Sweetwater, will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwo officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A rosary will be said by Deacon Bill Butler on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at 7 p.m. at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Jacques died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Big week of district action begins today

April 2, 2012

Starting today, a number of Nolan County high school athletes will be competing in district competition with hopes of advancing to the next level.
For some, that hope could be realized as soon as this weekend while others may have to wait two weeks or more to learn their fates.
And for the Sweetwater boys and girls track teams, this week will be spent in preparation for their district meets that won’t be held until April 11-12.

Mustangs’ 13-6 loss creates 4-team logjam for 2nd place

SNYDER — After starting a four-game road gauntlet through District 5-3A with an impressive 14-8 win over Brownwood on Tuesday, Sweetwater’s baseball team had a chance to move into undisputed second place by beating Snyder on Friday.
But after taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, things gradually fell apart for the Mustangs as Snyder — which came in desperately needing a win after starting out district 0-2 — roared back for a 13-6 win at Moffett Field.

SNYDER — After being held to no runs and just two hits through the first four innings, the Sweetwater softball team scored three runs in the fifth inning and held on for a 3-2 victory at Snyder to leave both teams in a tie for second place in District 5-3A at 2-2.

SHS teams at Colorado City in final tuneup for 5-3A meets

Sweetwater High School sent its track teams on Thursday to Colorado City’s Lone Wolf Relays for a final tuneup prior to the District 5-3A meets that will be held April 11-12 at Wylie.
Sweetwater’s varsity girls scored 76 points to record a fourth-place finish in their division, while Sweetwater’s varsity boys placed ninth with 28 points in their division. The JV boys team also competed at Colorado City on Thursday and scored 52 points for a fifth-place finish in their division.
