Thersa Verdell McKnight Stifflemire, 89, of Sweeny, Texas, passed away on Monday Feb. 4, 2013, at Emerus Hospital in Sugarland, Texas.
She was born on June 18, 1923, in Kelsey, Texas to Samuel McKnight and Gladys Corilla Luton.
Today will be partly sunny with a high near 72. Winds will be from the southeast at 5 to 10 mph.

With severe weather season fast approaching, the American Red Cross is issuing a community-wide appeal for new volunteers to become trained and ready to respond should a disaster occur in the community.

Stanley W. Pieper, age 71, of Sweetwater, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013 at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at Roscoe First Baptist Church with Rev. Adam Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Roscoe Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Tonightâ€™s games against Wylie mark the final time Sweetwaterâ€™s basketball teams host a doubleheader at Mustang Gym, and it will also be the girls teamâ€™s last regular-season game.
While both teams will be facing long odds of beating Wylie â€” whose teams are a combined 16-0 in district play â€” each has shown im-provement over last season and the girls still have a shot at making the playoffs.
Sweetwater and Big Spring are 5-4 this season in District 4-3A and are locked in a third-place tie, and each has won against the other in district play.
