Jerod Peek, Sweetwater Rotary Club President, presented a check for $500 to Sweetwater Goodfellows Vice President Ken Becker.Â Donations to the Sweetwater Goodfellows will help local children and families during the Christmas season.Â Sweetwater Goodfellows provides food and toys to local families in need with children and food to needy individuals during the Christmas season. The schedule for this year includes a toy drive at Wal-Mart on Saturday, Dec. 3, with distribution of the toys and food on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 50 calls for service, issued 16 citations and made no arrests on Nov. 29, 2011.

Martha Burleson passed away at home, with family by her side, on Nov. 26, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 59.
She was born May 9, 1952, in Sweetwater, Texas to C.W. and Izadora Lewis.
Martha was survived by her husband, Homer Burleson, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Kent Marquess; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Jennifer Burleson; grandson, Jacob Burleson and numerous other loving family members and friends.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Texas.
Geraldine âJerryâ Stewart, 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at her sonâs home in Fisher County, Texas.
She was born in Elk City, Okla. on April 9, 1924, to her parents, Slater and Velma Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Sweetwater with Rev. Phillip Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at the Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 E. Third Street in Sweetwater.
Although Roscoe did not enjoy its usual level of football success this past season, several of the Plowboy athletes have earned recognition on the All-District 7-A, Division II football team.
Five of Roscoeâs players were named to the all-district first team, all on defense. CLYDE â Playing its first game since the Thanks-giving break, Sweetwater led Clyde 7-6 after the first quarter on Tuesday.
But a disastrous second quarter and cold shooting for the rest of the game were too much for the Lady Mustangs to overcome as Clyde â which outscored Sweetwater 21-1 in the second period â rolled to a convincing 45-19 victory.
A number of Nolan County high school teams are participating in three-day basketball tournaments starting Thursday.
Sweetwaterâs varsity boys and girls play at events in Coahoma and Ballinger, re-spectively, while Blackwell is hosting its annual Oak Creek Classic that also in-cludes the Roscoe boys and girls, and Highlandâs teams will be at Bronte. Highland hosts its annual tournament next week.
