Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Lee Mueller, 50, of Roscoe, will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
A Rosary will be recited by Jim Petrie at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Mueller died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Linda Leigh Hobbs, age 46, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.Â
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Avondale Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under to the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 6-8 p.m.
Veta Clift, age 88, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.Â
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Garden of Memories with Rev. Donald Hunt officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2011, at the funeral home.Â
Veta was born January 19, 1923, in Jones County, Texas to Roy and Havalia King. She married James E. Clift in 1940 in Jones County. She was a homemaker and a member of Assembly of God Church.Â
Vonnie V. Bentle, age 76, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Â
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eric Von Atzigen officiating. A private graveside will follow later. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â

The Roscoe Fire Department responded to a structural fire on the 200 block of Bois D’Arc in Roscoe at 4 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2011, according to Roscoe Fire Chief Gary Armstrong. "The house was fully involved when units arrived. The house had two occupants at the time of the fire and the house was a total loss," said Armstrong. The two made it out of the house safely. The fire was electrical in nature and began in the home’s breaker box. Sweetwater Fire Department assisted the Roscoe Fire Department with the fire.
The U.S. Geological Survey program reported a 3.0 magnitude earthquake roughly 13 miles north of Snyder around 5 p.m. on Saturday evening, April 2, 2011. This quake was 13 miles north of Snyder and 41 miles northwest of Sweetwater.
This is the fourth time in as many weeks, that an earthquake registered in Scurry County. The last shake up was at 4:12 a.m., last Monday, when a 2.9 quake was registered, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. This quake was 11 miles north of Snyder.
On Feb. 28, a 3.1 quake was recorded while a 3.8 quake was registered on March 13.
The Texas Theater, located in downtown Sweetwater, has entered its next phase of the long term renovation process. The Sweetwater Texas Theater Acquisition Renovation (STTAR) committee has entered a contract with the Neon Shop of Abilene to remove, clean, repair and replace the lower marquee of the theater. “The integrity of the marquee will be the utmost priority of the renovation,” emphasized Brad Barton, owner of the Neon Shop. “We will use every means available to ensure the marquee looks the same as it did when first installed in the 1940s,” Barton concluded.
National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is an annual observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and celebrate the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities. This year’s NIIW is April 23-30. Infants are particularly vulnerable to infectious diseases; that is why it is critical to protect them through immunizations. Each day, nearly 12,000 babies are born in the United States who will need to be immunized against 14-vaccine-preventable diseases before age two.

Texas drivers saw big jumps at the pump over the past week due to investors' reaction to continued strife in OPEC nations, as well as the mandated statewide changeover to higher-priced summer blend gasoline, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The state average increased by eight cents over the past week to $3.51 a gallon for regular unleaded, while the national average rose six cents to $3.61.
Fort Worth has the most expensive gasoline at $3.58 a gallon, which is 14 cents higher than last week. Dallas is not far behind at $3.57, up 13 cents in a week.
