The Nolan County Grand Jury handed down 10 indictments on Tuesday , April 19, 2011, with eight of those indictments sealed. One of those indictments stemmed from a crack cocaine distribution house being busted in Sweetwater on Oct. 6, 2010.
Indicted for engaging in organized criminal activity was Robert Larry Williams. The offense is classified as a first degree felony, enhanced with two prior convictions, which could get him 25 years to life in prison. His bond was set at $25,000.
Williams' prior convictions included forgery in 1985 and aggravated assault in 1991.
The first annual Spring Fling Coloring Contest and Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest was held in downtown Roscoe at the Roscoe Emporium on April 16. Local students turned in coloring sheets prior to the contest and created sidewalk chalk art for the day's art contest. Winners of the contest are shown above including Temy Teel, John Robert O'Callaghan, Rhonda Stratton, Joseph Collins, Gabriel Alcala, Celinda Alcala, Kristina Rando, K'Den Stone, Larkyn O'Callaghan, Adison Torres and Alison Torres. Mike Briggs will have a special history display at the County-City Library during the month of April which is Confederate History Month. He will be displaying the history of Texas as a Confederate state. The display will be set up on the bulletin board in the front of the library. The hours for the library are Monday from 1-6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 35 calls for service, issued six citations and made one arrest on April 18, 2011.
The SPD received 13, 911 calls.

J. Vaughn Brown, 86, of Colorado City passed away, Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Midland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20,2011, at Kiker-Seale Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Moore officiating. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at the funeral home. All arrangements are under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Robert â€śBobâ€ť Gordon Campbell, 80, of Roscoe, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Roscoe with Rev. Adam Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Campbell died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
Born April 12, 1923 in Delight Arkansas, Verna Lee Reed lived a life in honor to God. At 1:51 p.m., April 19, 2011, Jesus fulfilled his promise and returned to earth to escort Verna home completing her life goal of returning to heaven. After 88 years seven days, Verna is now joining her husband James, parents, brothers Willie and Dewey â€śJackâ€ť Nelms, and other family and friends in her new home.

LUBBOCK â€” The Sweet-water High School girls golf team finished in sixth place at the Region I-3A tourna-ment that ended Tuesday at Lubbockâ€™s Meadowbrook Canyon course, failing to pick up any ground despite a slight improvement during the final round of play.
Despite sweeping Snyder in District 5-3A play this season, while also finishing in a tie with Big Spring for third place in district after a 6-2, nine-inning victory on Tuesday at Snyder in its season finale, Sweetwaterâ€™s softball team will not get a chance at the playoffs. Big Spring and Sweetwater both finished with 3-5 records, but Sweetwater lost both district games to Big Spring this season.
Tuesdayâ€™s win was still a nice way to finish, and Sweetwaterâ€™s District 5-3A fate wasnâ€™t sealed until Wylie (2-6) lost its finale to district champion Brown-wood 19-7 on Tuesday.
