WALL — After a 19-point win at Breckenridge the previous week, Sweetwater never got comfortable when it paid a visit to a very good Wall team on Friday.
The Hawks scored on the game’s first play from scrimmage on a 74-yard run by Grant Eubank, and never looked back in a 43-20 win over the Mustangs.
And Eubank’s head-turn-ing start was just the begin-ning of a remarkable first half for the 175-pound sen-ior, who accounted for five touchdowns before inter-mission in staking his team to a 37-12 advantage.
There was no defense for the Highland Hornets on Friday when they traveled to Sands and claimed a resounding 86-44 win.
Highland (2-2) got five TDs by Ron Covington plus three scoring runs by Mich-ael Hyde in the game.
Covington had 46- and 50-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns in the game in addition to having three scoring runs of his own.
Highland led Sands by 10, 30-20, at halftime after Covington had his first kickoff return for a touchdown from 46 yards out with only 12 seconds left. Covington also completed the scoring in the fourth quarter with his 50-yard kickoff return.
Jayden Jones rushed for 268 yards and scored four touchdowns, one on a fumble return, for Blackwell on Friday but the Hornets were unable to hold a 10-point lead after three periods as they lost to Trent, 50-44.
Blackwell was outscored 16-0 in the fourth quarter as it fell to 2-2. Trent is 4-0.
In addition to Jones’ run-ning, Ethan Andrews threw for 58 yards and Franck Cano (3), Ted Chambliss (2), Mark Monroe and Jones had receptions. Jones had two fumble recoveries and Cano and Wade Allen one.
Sweetwater’s sub-varsity football teams are both 3-1 for the season after splitting a doubleheader with Wall here on Thursday.
Sweetwater’s JV was de-feated for the first time this season as Wall won, 32-28, at Mustang Bowl.
After finding the end zone just once before intermission when quarterback Hayden Reeves hit Deandre Gatson on a pass of 32 yards, Sweetwater had 22 second-half points and hit paydirt three times.
