The 2011 season is just five games old. However, the Sweetwater varsity baseball team is already halfway to matching its win total for all of 2010.
Sweetwater (4-1) — which will be hosting its three-day Wood Bat Classic tournament starting Thursday at Newman Park — captured the championship at San Angelo Lake View’s tournament before losing at San Angelo Central by a score of 10-4 on Monday.

Tennis
Viv Littleton of Sweetwa-ter had her first career ace while playing at the Canyon Springs Golf Course in San Antonio. She used a 7-wood to ace the 120-yard No. 7 hole. Her witnesses were Ann Popejoy, Rosemary Watts and LaGena Weaver.
March 1st
Texas National Bank will host the monthly Chamber of Commerce Coffee and celebrate Texas Independence Day at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in the bank’s lobby at 400 East Broadway.
Texas National Bank opened for business on Monday, May 8, 1995, immediately following its acquisition of the Sweetwater Branch of Hamlin National Bank, which had been operating in Sweetwater since January of 1990. In 1997 the bank acquired the local branch of Bluebonnet Savings from State National Bank.
The Nolan County Commissioners' Court met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, Feb. 28, at the Nolan County Courthouse.
In light of the emergence of wildfires this past weekend, the burn ban for Nolan County is still in effect. However, an exemption was made for the controlled burn to take place near the Nolan County Coliseum as the weather permits.

Funeral services for Cleo Parrott, 100, of Roscoe, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at First Baptist Church of Roscoe with Rev. Adam Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A visitation will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 1011, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Parrott died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Sweetwater Healthcare Center in Sweetwater.
A graveside service for Lela Demetrice Jones, 76, of Sweetwater, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Don Bennett officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Jones died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
The Sweetwater girls golf team shot a 693 total this past Friday and Saturday for a second-place finish at the Sweetwater Golf Classic.
One bad inning — that’s all that kept the Sweetwa-ter High School softball team from first-place honors at its own tournament held this past weekend.
Still, it was a pretty good three days as the Lady Mustangs finished third at their event and suffered only one defeat at the Jerry Collins Complex.
