Daryl Joe Sisk, 66, of Sweetwater, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at his home.
Mr. Sisk was cremated and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Sisk was born March 22, 1944, in Valley Mills, Texas. He married Sharon E. Carl on Nov. 16, 1992, in Nolan County. He was a retired engineer for Santa Fe Railroad and had lived in Sweetwater for the past 17 years and Brownwood before. He was a U.S. military veteran.
Survivors include his son, Charles Sisk and wife Pat of Sweetwater; and granddaughter, Crystal Lynn Sisk of Sweetwater.
A pair of Sweetwater’ athletes, Paxton Kelley and Taylor Jones, have received all-District 5-3A basketball honors for their outstanding play this past season.
Kelley, a 6-8 senior post, was named to the first team and received all-district honors for the second straight year. He averaged a team-high 15.3 points in district play and also led the Mustangs in rebounds and blocks.
Jones, a 5-9 junior guard, was named to the second team. Jones averaged 14.6 points in district play and was the team’s floor leader.

ABILENE — For the first 3 1/2 quarters of Friday’s Region II-A, Division II semifinal playoff, the Highland girls basketball team was able to match everything Newcastle could throw at them.
Holding a 47-44 lead with just 4:20 to play, the Lady Hornets appeared to be in great shape to reach the regional finals for only the second time in school history.
Era Helen Cagle, age 86, of Sweetwater, passed away on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.Â
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at O'Donnell Cemetery in O'Donnell, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Funeral services for Jerland Fred Freeman, Sr., 82, of Roscoe, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Roscoe Church of Christ with Rian Freeman and Dan Boren officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation was held from 5-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater.
Freeman died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Edgar Rex George was born July 10, 1940, to Wilton and Nadine Hobbs George in Maryneal, Texas. Rex died on Feb. 26, in Abilene, Texas under the care of hospice.
Jimmie and Kaye Joy of Roscoe were selected as winners in the America's Farmers Grow Communities SM Program, which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local non-profit organizations. The donations are available through the Monsanto Fund. The Joys have designated the Roscoe High School FFA to receive the Award in Nolan County. An award ceremony was presented on Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Roscoe High School Ag Building.
A former Big Country resident is making huge strides at his Big Bend occupation.
Randy Guzman, the son of Jose and Gloria Guzman of Roscoe, was recently named as the interim general manager of Southwest Texas Municipal Gas (SWTMG) Corporation by the company's board of directors.
Two Rotary International programs will be the topics of discussion at the Sweetwater Rotary Club meeting to be held on Monday, Feb. 28. The noon-time meeting will be held at the TSTC West Texas Sweetwater campus in the banquet room located north of the cafeteria.
Jack Campbell will be the guest speaker and will discuss the Rotary Youth Exchange. Campbell currently serves as the Rotary District 5730 Chairman of the Rotary Youth Exchange program.
Hastings Entertainment in Sweetwater has not only made some changes on the inside — they have some great events arriving visually for the readers and musically for those music listeners.
Speaking with Thomas Jowers, manager of the Hastings located at 1102 E. Broadway, he has arrived to the Sweetwater Hastings with many new ideas. He welcomes local artists of all kinds. Jowers wants to get all of the community involved with Hastings events. From children's Easter egg hunts, to cartoon character events, and much more for families and adults.
