The Sixth Annual West Texas Wind Festival is expected to be another event in which families from the surrounding areas can gather for many activities on the streets of Roscoe. The free event will feature headline act country music legend Gene Watson and Band. Canyon Rim will also perform during the event, along with local and regional talent. The live music will begin about 2 p.m. The Tennessee Stiffs will go on at 6 p.m. During the event there will also be a kids area (bounce houses).
Hobbs School and community will have their homecoming beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20. There will be entertainment, a short business meeting, a time to recognize the classes, exes traveling the longest distance and memorials â€”Â all emceed by Hobbs ex "Doc" Hardin and the 2012 Hobbs exes president Jerry Trice.
A catered meal will be served at noon. There will be a choice of brisket or chicken and the cost os $10 per plate.
This year's American Heart Walk has been set for Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Sweetwater High School track. The event will help raise funds to fight cardiovascular diseases. According to event organizer Jerrie Gee, walkers are still needed for the event. "People can still register and enter to walk on Saturday. If you raise $100, you get a T-shirt. Any amount of money raised is appreciated."
Sweetwater Middle School gave a campus report during the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Board of Trustees' meeting on Monday night, October 15, with a wide variety of change on the positive front being presented.
The presentation was made by the school's administrators, principal Jeff Withrow and vice principal Danette Price. After a number of changes and obstacles last school year, SMS wanted to bring fun and excitement back to the campus.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 34 calls for service, issued one citation and made four arrests on Oct. 16, 2012.
The SPD received 26, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service, served three civil papers and made no arrests on Oct. 16, 2012.

Helen Smith Allen, affectionately known as "Sissy", age 91, passed away on Oct. 18, 2012, in San Angelo, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fisher County, Texas under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home, 403 Locust in Sweetwater.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at First Baptist Church Chapel, 37 East Harris Avenue in San Angelo.
Family will receive friends from 6- 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at the funeral home.

Sweetwater varsity will host Midland Greenwood, 7:30 p.m.
Since playing each other for the first time ever in 2000, Sweetwater and Mid-land Greenwood have met on an almost annual basis.
In that time the Mustangs and Rangers have played each other 11 times, includ-ing three times in the play-offs, with Sweetwater hold-ing a 7-4 edge. In fact, the teams faced each other twice in the same season in 2002 and 2005, when they met during both the regular season and the playoffs.
But the rivalry has a new wrinkle this year.
