The Sweetwater Goodfellows held their food and toy distribution on Monday, helping many families with Christmas toys for children of Nolan County that they might not have otherwise.
Many volunteers â€”Â including individuals, organizations and businesses, contributed their time at the distribution and Christmas party.
An area family is doing their part to help a relative recover from a serious wreck.
The family of Michael McFaul will be holding three events on Saturday, December 14 in Roscoe. All proceeds from the events will be given to his benefit account, which was established in order to provide financial support for McFaul's rising medical expenses as well as the growing cost of airfare to send family to be by his side for emotional and physical support.
McFaul is currently in the Grady Hospital Burn Unit in Atlanta, GA. His family resides in Texas, which is over 1,100 miles away.
Nolan County has earned a 2012 Safety Award from the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) for its record of involvement and commitment to safety in the workplace, as well as for controlling the county's workers' compensation claims.
To qualify for this award, the county must self-insure its workers' compensation through the Texas Association of Counties Risk Pool Management, and successfully complete the safety award criteria.
Nolan County was one of only 27 counties honored with an award during an Oct. 28 ceremony at the TAC Pool Symposium in San Marcos.
Dorothy Helen Whisenant-Broughton, 79 of Converse, LA passed from this world in the fellowship of her family and friends on Wednesday, Nov. 27. A native of Roscoe, Texas, â€śDottyâ€ť spent the majority of her life in Sweetwater and Abilene, Texas. The eldest daughter of Sam and Lena Whisenant, of Roscoe, she is survived by her sister Mrs.

Mustang Youth Basketball will hold sign-ups for the 2014 league at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospitalâ€™s conference room located at the front of the hospital on the following dates: Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 5:30-7 p.m.; Thursday, Dec. 12, from 5:30-7 p.m.; and Monday, Dec. 16, from 5:30-7 p.m.
No late registrations will be allowed this year. Children must be in third through sixth grade to be eligible.

Sixty-five Sweetwater High School students made the A-Honor Roll in the second six weeks, and Texas National Bank continued with its commitment to recognize and award one lucky scholar from each grade with $50. The winners of the Texas National Bank Good Grades Pay Award for the second six seeks were Timothy Holsey (9th Grade), Kilanie Arpin (10th Grade), Corynn Martin (11th Grade), and Larissa Locklar (12th Grade).
