Brookshire’s launches third annual Gatorade promotion to benefit first responders

With the hot summer months approaching, Brookshire’s has once again teamed up with Gatorade to keep local emergency first responders throughout Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas hydrated as they work to keep our communities safe.
Today through June 9, customers will receive 200 bonus yourpoints for every five 32 oz. bottles of Gatorade purchased in a single transaction at any Brookshire’s location.

Two girls try to bring home medal

On Friday, Highland’s Hannah Allen will compete in two events, the Class 1A girls 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, at the state track meet at the University of Texas-Austin.

Dr. Jennifer Liedtke and office staff, along with Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, are pleased to announce the addition of Bri Burnett, FNP to her practice. The office is open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with walk-in clinic from 7-8 a.m. and also from 12-1 p.m.

Commission talks finances at budget retreat

Following a short meeting at city hall, the Sweetwater City Commission attended its annual budget retreat in one of the training rooms at the police department. City Manager Eddie Brown said the affair went smoothly, and that the city's finances are in order.

Microtel welcomed to Sweetwater

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Microtel Inn & Suites by Windham on Tuesday to welcome the new hotel to Sweetwater. Many members of the community, along with Chamber Ambassadors, attended the event and enjoyed a catered lunch and tours of the hotel after the ceremony. General Manager Brandon Mills is shown cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

Sweetwater’s Hardy Escobar avoids swinging at a low pitch during Game 1 of the Mustangs’ recent best-of-3 bi-district playoff series against Borger that was held in Lubbock. Sweetwater begins its area playoff against Fort Stockton on Friday at Midland Greenwood High School. The best-of-3 series will wrap up on Saturday.

Commission approves donation from DA to constable

Nolan County Constable Stephen F. Smith II received what he described as a "gracious gift" during Monday's meeting of the Nolan County Commissioners Court.
Until recently, Smith had been using his personal automobile in the performance of his duties. But District Attorney Ann Reed, after recognizing a need for Smith to have an automobile befitting a peace officer, donated one of the 32nd Judicial District's older vehicles to the constable's office.

Commissioners, mayor sworn into office

Sweetwater City Commissioners Larry May (Precinct 1) and Ricky Castro (Precinct 3), along with Mayor Jim McKenzie, were sworn into office during Tuesday's City Commission meeting held at City Hall. Administering the oath of office is city attorney Pete Sheridan.
