Availon Inc., a wind turbine service provider, has announced the appointment of Nancy Howlett as the sales account manager for Sweetwater, Texas. In this role she will be responsible for Availonâ€™s sales efforts in the West Texas region.
There have been a number of cases of flu in the area, therefore, the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD) encourages residents to get vaccinated this flu season. Getting vaccinated is the best way to stop the spread of flu. "It's important to get vaccinated now to help keep yourself and your family healthy," stated Linda Kite, SNCHD public promotions coordinator.
Funeral services for Betty Lou Rowan, 71, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Ward Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Rowan died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
Rosa Martinez, age 85, of Sweetwater, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, in Sweetwater.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

ERCOT continues in EEA LEVEL 3. All load has been restoredÂ to areas that were affected by the rolling scheduled outages. ERCOT is still at 3000 Mw's on short supply but generation is still being restored to the system.

In less than eight weeks, the Sweetwater Jaycees Worldâ€™s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up will be back in full force. The biggest event that West Texas and the world knows doesnâ€™t come together without preparation. A meeting about the Rattlesnake Round-Up took place to discuss parking, tours and other aspects that need to be addressed.

Judge Tim Fambrough has issued a proclamation for Feb. 4, to be declared as National Wear Red DayÂ® in Nolan County, in an effort to promote women's health and increase awareness of heart disease in women.
According to the proclamation, heart disease is the number one killer of women. One in four American women dies of heart disease, due in part that many women are unaware of the problem, leading to a lack of concern.
This past Sunday marked the first fundraiser of the year for West Texas Heat. The traveling girls softball team is based out of Sweetwater and is made up of 13 girls from Sweetwater, Snyder, Roby, Colorado City, Hawley and Stanford. This year will be their first year competing in the 14 and under age group. Last year the girlsâ€™ record was 83-8 and two ties. They brought home first place in their biggest tournament called Goliath held in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where teams from six different states competed. The team hopes to participate again this summer.
