The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 38 calls for service, issued two citations and made three arrests on Jan. 7, 2013.
The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

Ruby Kathryn McMickle, age 84, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Texan Nursing and Rehab.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Gonzales Memorial Park with Rev. Chester McCown officiating. Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Seydler- Hill Funeral Home of Gonzales, Texas.

After taking a five-point lead (38-33) early in the fourth quarter of Tuesdayâ€™s key District 4-3A contest with Midland Greenwood, Sweetwaterâ€™s girls saw their hopes of a a 2-0 start and a share of the district lead slip away here Tuesday.
Greenwood rallied to go on an 11-2 run and stun the Lady Mustangs, 44-40, to improve to 2-0 in district.
SAN ANGELO â€” The Sweetwater boys won their seventh straight game on Tuesday, but just barely. The Mustangs escaped with a thrilling 60-58 road win at San Angelo Lake View to improve to 11-7 overall.
Kaleb Hoover scored a season-high 23 points, including a tie-breaking layup as time ran out, to give Sweetwater the victory in its final tuneup for the start of District 4-3A action that begins Friday.
Sweetwater led 47-37 en-tering the fourth quarter after outscoring Lake View 24-13 in the third stanza, but the Chiefs rallied and tied it at 58 on a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left.
Sweetwaterâ€™s junior varsity girls made it 16 straight wins without a loss here on Tuesday as the Lady Mus-tangs crushed Greenwood, 53-23, to also improve to 2-0 in district play.
Shaneese Brown had 14 points and Bianca Castillo and Maddie Jones 10 for Sweetwater, while Cierra Knox had seven, Lexi Cast-illo five, Abby McPherson four, Morgan Whitley two and Nisha Williams one. The team also won 45-32 in its district opener at Big Spring on Friday as Brown scored 18, McPherson 12, Knox and Jones four, Jasmine Reddic three and Bianca Castillo two.
The rain continues on Wednesday, with a 90% chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm and a high near 46. Winds will be from the north at 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tonight, showers are likely as we have a 70% chance of precipitation. We'll have cloudy skies and a low around 38 with northern winds at 10 to 15 mph. After midnight, winds will shift to the west and gusts could be as high as 20 mph.

Funeral services for Vivian Ann Rice, 89, of Sweetwater, will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Chaplain Lynn Robertson officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Rice died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
The Robotics Team for Sweetwater Intermediate School, Senior Soldiers,Â will be traveling to Dallas on Saturday, Jan. 12,Â for theÂ First Lego League Regional Robotics Championship Tournament. The team qualified on Dec. 8, in Ft. Worth.

This team advanced while receiving two advance placements in robot design and core values.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has two dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male chihuahua mix and a male mixed breed dog. According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
